Towers Brides- need your help?

Hello Ladies-

I'm getting married at the Towers and we have cut our guest list as much as possible. That leaves us with 180, which we have a good idea that about 170 will come because its mostly close family (we both have big families) and friends. A lot of them have booked hotels already!! even the ones we didn't think would come!

Will we fit comfortably?? I know they say max is 180, but I have seen pictures where it looks really cramped... any advice would be great!

Future Mrs. Walsh

Hi. I know that they say the max is 180. I am getting married there with 150. I went there for an event with about 125 people nad it was plenty roomy. I think it depends... are you using the round tables? Or longer ones? With 170 you will end up with tables that kind of run close to the bar area, or with ones int hat alcove where it kind of juts out.

I think you will be ok, if some people are dancing, some are sitting, some are at the bar.

Are you having the cocktail reception outside? I think that might be a less-cramped option for 170 people. I know that I think 150 for us will fit ok, so 20 more is really only 2 more tables...

I do suggest having the tables run closer to the bar/other alcove than on the dance floor though--beacuse then you still leave ample dance space/room to get to the deck...

Think about your table options. Also, using the chivari chairs will save room as well.

    Hi Ladies,
I got married at the Towers last June. I had 14 round tables of 10 and a sweetheart table. We had 129 people actually sitting at the tables. I'm not going to lie--- it worked but it was tight. I don't see how you are getting 170 people in there unless you are sacrificing your dance floor. I beileve the 180 max capacity can only be achieved if you are utilizing the two round spaces at both ends for tables. Also, I don't know what month your wedding was in but it was a really warm early June night for mine and it was really warm inside with 131 people plus staff. Add in more people and it would be even warmer. Just thought I'd mention it. Good luck!

We started off with around 150 people as well and I was thrilled that we made it down to 129! I think you will end up being fine. As for the heat, it really depends on the day and you never know. I certainly didn't think heat on June 5 would be an issue but it was very humid/rainy that morning but then the sun came out and it reached 80 degrees as the high. It was very comfortable outside at the cocktail hour but sort of "oven-like" by dinnertme in the Towers. My recommendation is to ask for the windows to be opened "earlier" in the afternoon when the set-up is being done. My cocktail hour was outside(which is FABULOUS if the weather allows you to do so) and I notices that the windows were only cracked open at the time. By the time we went inside, it was almost too late to cool it down. I was definitely sweating in my dress and I asked my DOC to immediately get the windows opened as it was hot already. Once you have all those people in there with body heat, it just kept getting hotter. People did go outside to the deck to cool off. If the windows had been opened more before people had come in there, it wouldn't have been so hot to start off with and then as night falls, the cooler breeze would have helped. Of course it was raining that morning so I know the windows had to be closed during the day. That being said I would 100% still choose the Towers for my reception. Hope this helps!

Thanks that helped. When you said Early June, I was wonedering if you meant that weekend. I remember it well, because I got engaged on June 5th. But my best friend was married on June 4th- and it was sooo hot and humid, I remember sweat like dripping down my back in church (gross right) ... we rode a trolley from Cumberland to Newport, and I literally think I almost passed out betweent he heat. long dress and humidity. I don't know how my friend survivied.

I remember it being raining and thunder on June 5th morning- because my fiance wanted to propose at the beach and he was sooo bummed-but then it cleared up and ended up being a completely amazing day - albeit super humid

Im hoping that late august it may be hot, but its usually a pretty dry month-- Also, my caterer suggested that same thing- that the minute she gets in there she will open all the windows and the doors to air it out and get the air flowing, and make sure the fans are on.

I am really worried about people complainging about the heat up there :(.
But glad to hear that you wouldn't change your reception location!! My only other reception option was to do it at Glen Manor- which also, has no Ac

Thanks for the help ladies- we cut our list to 178, I'm hoping 145ish will end up coming. The issue is that the people we didn't think would come have already booked hotels. So I'm really worried now! You sat 10 to a table? What time was your wedding Mrs. McIrish??

Another option that I have seen done at the Towers that has been not so traditional, is a more cocktail style dinner. There are many assortments of tables there (cocktail tables, small round, large round, and people are served all night with appetizers and buffet). Not sure if this is quite your style, but you wouldn't have to cut your list, and the towers can fit 250 with standing room. The 180 max is sitting. Just a thought for you :)

I'm sorry you are worried on fiting everyone in! I was totally stressed until the very end as we didn't know if my husband's relatives from Ireland were coming. Thank goodness they didn't so we fit! Yes, we had 10 at the round tables. That was absolutely fine. My cocktail hour started at 6pm and we went inside around 7:15- ish. I think the next poster's idea of not doing a "sit down" dinner would work for you if you had to. Good luck!!

Our wedding was tight but here is something that might help.

Position tables near the dance floor that will be folded away, and be sure to have younger guests who might actually dance be seated at those tables. That way, elderly guests wont have to worry about their seats being moved towards the end of the night. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all of your help! Do either of you have pictures I could look at to see how it was set up? I looked online but it was difficult to find a picture of the room!

    Thanks!

I am also considering the towers as a reception venue and was wondering where you ladies got married? I wanted to do a beach wedding w. reception on the beach but if we did the reception in the towers I would still like to get married on the beach- any ideas?

As one of you suggested, I am not planning to do a formal sit-down dinner so am hoping that the space will be room enough- I'm planning to invite 200 and knock it down as the RSVPs come in. I'm going to see the place in a few weeks.

Any other suggestions based on places you have looked?
