Need DC area photo help (please).

Hey Knotties,
I need your expertise. I’m looking for the best place to take photos in the DC area. This can be wedding or engagement photos. Also, tell me why. Does the place have great lighting? Filled with nature? Modern buildings? What makes it unique to where you live and why would someone want to take wedding-related photos there? I’ll be using your Knot name, btw.
Thanks in advance!

I love the downtown DC street photos you see a lot - you know the ones, the bride and groom standing either in the crosswalk, or on the sidewalk, with the cars and bulidings in the background - they have such a great DC/city feel to them without standing in front of a monument.  Here's an example - (this photo was taken by Kelsey Thompson)

I love Old Town Alexandria.  It is such a charming town with historical buildings, a beautiful waterfront area, and really nice colors on the street to take photos.  We did engagement pictures there this past fall.

Here are a couple examples, photos taken by Kate Pelura

    I love Annapolis-by the waterfront.

Also downtown in front of the monuments.  The Jefferson and Lincoln are great.  If you could get there just when the sun starts to go down and everything is illuminated-there is nothing else like it in the world and you don't get much more DC than that!

The National Arboretum.  Beautiful scenery in a natural setting.  There are of course trees, but also azaleas in the spring.  In the spring the trees are in bloom and look fabulous.  Also, there are the columns from the old Capitol.  Totally looks DC but they are set up in a grassy field.  It's just the perfect setting if you're looking for something more nature oriented but still distinctly DC.  Morning gives you great light and it's not so hot yet.

The National Harbor, it's really nice by the water.  And  you can also take pictures behind Gaylord Hotel.

I like pictures by the Capitol.  It gives you the DC feel.  There's a lovely fountain for water shots.  Plus, you can get city/street shots in that area.  To me, you can have it all.

If you are in the suburbs... Meadow Lark Botanical Gardens in Vienna is absolutely breathtaking in the spring.  Likewise if you find yourself in Vienna, the downtown Church Street area has a small town feel with the old Freeman Store, W&OD Caboose, and many small shops with unique storefronts.
If you are downtown, there is no more classic setting than in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial or on the steps of the Capitol.  Union Station makes a great rainy day retreat as a back up plan with retro fixtures and gorgeous lighting, no matter what time of day.
I will second Old Town Alex as well, the tree-lined cobblestone streets, the parks along the water, and a gorgeous across the river view of downtown make for a spectacular setting.

Thank you all for these amazing suggestions. I really appreciate it and need to visit the DC board more often!
