Wedding Invitations & Paper

Do you have to include ceremony/reception address on invite?

We're not sure if the full addresses need to be included on the invitation (crunched for space).  We have a wedding website which has all these details -- do we need to include the address on the invite card as well?

Re: Do you have to include ceremony/reception address on invite?

  • You should have the complete address of your ceremony venue on  your invitaton.  Your reception venue's address can be on your reception card.
  • Definitely include the address for the ceremony on the invite, and the reception address on the reception card (I'm guessing they are not the same location).

You shouldn't include the zip code, but the street address and the City, State need to be included.
  • No, street names shouldn't be on the invitation.  An exception might be a church in a very large city tat could cause confustion.

I'm going to disagree with this, unless all of your guests are local, OP.
  • A wedding web site and too little space is not a good reason for leaving off the address.

Acceptable reasons would be very traditional invitations and a landmark church or other venue.
  • What is your wording? Most invitation should accomodate traditional wording and ceremony location. It will look like this:

The honour of your presence is requested at the marriage of

    Jane Elizabeth Doe

    and

    Michael Thomas Jones

    Saturday, the tenth of September
    two thousand ten
    five o'clock in the afternoon

    White Plains First Baptist Church
    123 Main Street
    White Plains, New York

Then, if the reception is at another location, you put an insert in with this wording:

    Reception to follow

    Duke's Restaurant
    The Endicott Tennis Club
    345 East State Street
    White Plains, New York

If it's at the same location, just put "Reception to follow" on the bottom of your invitation.

  • You only include the street address if you want them to show up at the correct place and/or to put in their GPS.
