So I'm currently having a spat with my FI over his tux. He wants to wear white and I'm trying to convince him to wear black. I'm thinking that a white tux would look dated, and even if it doesn't, would a white tux clash with my ivory dress? (I don't think the tux place carries ivory tuxes, only vests and accessories). So I was hoping to get other opinions on the issue- what are arguments for or against the white tux argument?

[QUOTE]I dont want to dictate what he wears. I really don't want to be 'that bride' and I certainly don't want to be controlling. BUT on the other hand, I want our pictures to look nice, and I am worried about whether white will clash with my dress, seeing as I have an ivory dress. I want to try and compromise and come up with something that will work for both of us, so I was hoping that from a style point of view I could get some opinions on whether these color combos could work or not because I do want to work with my FI rather than forcing him into something he hates.

As far as that. I really don't think white and ivory will clash. No one's going to notice it other than you. And it's never noticable in pictures.

You can do a google image search for white tux wedding photos. Maybe he likes the idea but hasn't seen pics yet, which might get him to change his mind. The different fabrics of your dress and the tux might make the color difference unnoticeable. Is there any way you can get fabric samples together to compare?
I was at Men's Wearhouse this weekend and they had an ivory tux. FI wanted tan suits, but they didn't have any for rent, so we ended up with black pin stripe.
I understand your concern about the colors clashing, but if he really wants to wear white at least try to see what the colors look like next to each other. If he was wearing a white shirt it would still be a different color than your dress.

[QUOTE]I voted other. I really don't like white tuxes/suits because they remind me of the "gangsta" wannabe white kids at my high school prom. It just doesn't look right IMHO. That said, I believe in the right to your FI choose what he wears on his wedding day as well as you. You wouldn't want him telling you what color dress to wear would you? I would see if you can come to an agreement. Maybe the black tux with white accessories like PP said. But if he really, really insists on wearing white and just won't be happy without it, I say he should wear white. You'll both want to be happy that day. =)
