Taco bar vs enchiladas

Hey everyone-

We're trying to be budget conscious with the food for our super small reception (20 people).  The buffet choice we have picked includes enchiladas, but I think that that doesn't offer much variety if people aren't a fan of enchilada sauce.  I thought tacos would let people make them to their liking.  My mom and FI think that a taco  bar isn't "classy enough," especially since you eat them with your hands.  What do you guys think?

What else is on the buffet?

It depends on the vibe of your wedding. If it is casual, then tacos should be fine, but if it's more dressy, then you should probably reconsider. Tacos are very messy to eat when dressed up and all made up.

Thanks for the responses!  It's a very casual wedding (picnic tables outside at a park).  The rest of the buffet includes fruit/veggie trays, mini quesadillas and asparagus pastry wraps for appetizers; rice/beans, chips and salsa/guacamole, and salad.

So I'm guessing people won't be too dressed up?  If not, I think either one is fine.  Depending on what kind of enchiladas you're thinking of, it might be a lot of cheese to have enchiladas (I love cheese enchiladas) and quesadillas, so tacos could be more variety.

I would do a taco bar.  Besides being fun and easily customizable for guests' preferences/allergies/dietary restrictions, from a purely selfish standpoint--I don't like enchiladas, so I vote taco bar!  But, seriously, tacos sound perfect!  Enjoy and congratulations!

If you are really set on enchiladas, you could always try different sauces for them (e.g. green, mole).  But tacos could also be fancy, depending on the quality of ingredients.  For example, use queso fresco instead of Kraft orange shredded taco cheese, etc.  You could really do it up and have nice, fancy tacos!  :)

I vote taco bar too.  Then your guests can pick and choose what they want, and you will probably be able to please more people that way.

i like the taco bar idea and would be excited to have this at a casual wedding. if your mom and FI think it's not classy enough set up a nice taco bar. make the presentation really nice with fancy serving bowls and flowers on the table and maybe have some toppings that aren't typical like some fancier cheeses, nice grilled veg, a variety of salsas and guac or some seafood. think what bobby flay would do and it'll impress your guests i'm sure.

a friend of mine who lives in san fran had a taco truck at their wedding for the main meal and everyone loved it. the wedding wasn't exactly super casual either. i suppose more informal.
