Need advice on menu...

We are planning a super casual (as in jeans are totally kosher) wedding reception that will also serve as a going-away party for us since we are moving out of state just a few days later.  We expect about 225-250 guests and my fiance really wants to serve "pizza and wings."

I'm totally fine with the pizza and wings idea, and the quote from the caterer is under our budget.... what else should we add??  I was thinking a garden salad for those who are a little more health conscious and maybe another side?  I want to make sure our guests have enough food since they will be drinking all night (although we are providing a shuttle to/from the hotel).

We will also be serving wedding cake and plan to have a candy buffet.

Ideas??  Thanks!!

Re: Need advice on menu...

  • Some kind of salad as well as a veggie platter with dressing, hummus, and dips?

  • A vegetarian pasta dish?  Breadsticks or garlic/cheesy bread?

Definitely green salad, maybe with a mini-salad-bar of options that people can add on (grape tomatoes, grated carrot, sliced cucumber, etc.).  Also like the suggestions in PP for veggies and chip dips.
  • Mac and cheese or pasta w/ marinara or alfredo, garlic bread, green salad, various pizzas (cheese, pepperoni, veggie, maybe something crazy like BBQ chicken?).

You could also do that as a dinner buffet, but have some apps before dinner - sliders, quesadillas, maybe make the wings part of the apps. You could do "boneless" wings/chicken strips, too.

Then have cake and maybe ice cream or some cookies and you'll definitely have enough food for 4-6 hours.
