Hire Security for wedding??

My parents got divorced about 4 years ago and ever since its been a brutal WAR between the families (aunts, uncles, grandparents included). I havenot had a relationship with anyone on my fathers side of my family for about 3 years now except for 1 of my aunts. She will be invited to my wedding. However the rest of the family will not be and i am seriously afraid that they will invite themselves and cause a scene (snice that is what theyre good at). Is it a bad idea to hire security? I think it makes sense but my FI thinks that since they are my family they have a right to be there regardless.

P.S. My FI has never met any of them ever!!

You can hire an off-duty police officer for a flat rate and it is pretty cheap for the peice of ming you will get.

I wish your family could be more grown-up. That sucks. I'm not sure just how good they are at causing a scene, but if it helps, there were gate crashers at our wedding. (Some of FI's family disagreed with him marrying a Middle Easterner and came uninvited wearing uh, provocative? headgear.) We didn't have anyone to stop them but after 2 seconds they realized they were only making themselves look like fools and apologised.

MinM has a good idea about the off duty officer. But I hope if you hire him his night is pretty boring!

I'm with Kuus, judging the Fi. No one has a right to be at my parties except my invited guests. Yes, even if they're FAAAAAAAAAAAMILY!

But my family is full of bitches, so I totally get not wanting to deal with them.

I think that the only people who have any "right" to be at your wedding are you, FI, the officiant, whoever else you invite or hire to be there. And I totally understand your fear that they will show up. I'm struggling with a similar one myself, although it's not *quite* as bad as yours sounds. I think that if hiring security will give you peace of mind, then do it.

I think it's such a crying shame that people who are able to vote, drive and procreate can't be adult enough to get along for a few hours at your wedding. That being said I'd take Min's suggestion and hire an off-duty cop

Thanks so much for the suggestion.... I think that really is a great idea more or less for the peace of mind... And i also agree that it is really sad that everyone cannot be adult enough to act that way for a few hours.
