Wedding Dress Bustle

Any recommendations on how to bustle this dress?? I dont care for the french bustle...The problem is there is there are 2 or 3 layers of Tulle then satin && i'm not sure how it'll look...My mom is doing this for me, she used to teach it, made her wedding gown etc. so there is no doubt she'll make whatever I pick pretty. But she is wondering what kind of bustle I want. I have no Idea! Thanks for any pictures or suggestions!!

Re: Wedding Dress Bustle

  • Not sure what it's called, but maybe the kind that tucks under - think it might be called a hem bustle? It just folds the train up under the dress to make it even with the front hem length.

French bustles are tucked under and American bustles are pinned over/up.

I had a similar dress to yours (kinda) with a satin layer and overlay of lace layer.  I got a 10 point American bustle on each layer and I loved it, but I'm sure many people thought it was overdone.  Your dress is lovely, how about a simple one or two point American bustle?

Also, if your Mom did this professionally, I'm sure she has an opinion.  Ask her what she thinks would look best and hold well!
  • If your mom is doing it, have her show you some options on the dress. This sort of thing requires getting a feel for the drape and fullness of the fabric and using that to figure out how to properly distribute the bulk and weight of the skirt. It's better to have her show you what will work than to pick something and have her try to make that work.
  • I think a simple bustle would be appropriate with your dress.  I agree with Joy on the two point American bustle.  But ask your Mom to see what her suggestion would be.

  • Because it has a bit of a sweep train, I would do a mulit point french bustle.
