Flowers

Just wondering if any of you ladies can give me an average price of what you are paying for your flowers. I have 1 quote so far and I am going to AW tomorrow to meet with Adam. The problem I am running into is Valentine's Day. Because my wedding is the 18th, 4 days after VDay, the price of roses are jacked up. The first florist I delt with called 4 different suppliers and is getting similar prices. She told me if my wedding was anytime after Feb. 22 the price of roses would go down. I am planning on doing all roses for my bouquets and my girls as wells as the centerpieces.  I am also trying to get my mother to understand that the price of flowers are not the same as they were 14 years ago when my sister got married. Plus my mother did all her flowers for her wedding, which were silk. Of course I have to be difficult, according to my mother, and not want silk.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I found that prices varied drastically from florist to florist based on overhead and profit markup.  The cost for a particular scope of work will depend on the type of flowers you are aiming for.  We didn't have many roses in our wedding, but paid just under 3K for around 15 high centerpieces, 7 bouquets, flowers for the church, flowers girls, the guys, mothers, readers, and all the other little stuff.  We also had candles set up in the entry and during the cocktail hour.  Some florists were charging 5K+ for the same scope.  So it pays to shop around.  Who are you using?

Also, not all of us here are ladies :)

We are using hydrenga/roses/mini cala and are using Debbie from Where Flowers Bloom

The price definitely varies from florist to florist.  We went with a more expensive florist because she really understood what we wanted & needed.  We are saving some money by buying our own vases & candles so all the florist is doing is the bouquets, bouts, corsages and the actual flowers themselves (though they are putting the centerpieces together with the stuff we buy).  A few places will let you do that and it definitely helps with the price!

Thanks for insight User....my apologies for addressing only to the ladies. Nice to have some testosterone on here. My quote was $3,106.00 for 1 alter arrangement, 1 shelf arrangement, 1 bridal bouquet, 1 MOH and 4 BM bouquets,  1 Groom, 1BM, 4 GM boutonierres, 2 mothers wristlets, 2 fathers bouts, godmother wristlet, 18 red glass cube vase centerpieces all done in red Ecuadorian roses with rhinestones and very little greenery.

My first quote was from Highland Florist in Sussex County. I am going to AW in Kearny tomorrow and probably a few places in Madison. I am really hoping AW can do a lower estimate because he is orginially from my hometown and we have mutal friends. I have heard is work is amazing would love to give him the business. But like you said it pays to shop around but Valentines Day will be my biggest obstacle unless I take out some of the roses.

Do you mind me asking what your quote breakdown was?

I had all red roses for my flowers, but I didn't get centerpieces.
I paid $600 for my bouquet, 4 bridesmaids, 2 moms, flower girl, and 7 bouts (and a free toss bouquet).. just wondering how much the price is going up because of Valentine's Day.

Also, I'd suggest contacting Lisa at Apple Blossom Florist in Scotch Plains. She did an amazing job - she was referred by my friend's family - they have used her for years, and 2 weddings, etc.

I have a couple pics too, in case you are interested...

Sorry, you must've been typing your post when I was typing mine.
Did they give you a breakdown of how much each item costs? I'm curious to see how yours compares to what I paid.
Also, not sure what Ecuadorian roses are.. I just requested "red roses" and they were beautiful.

Cindy- she didnt break down the quote. It was just a total quote which included delivery to my parents, set up at the church and reception. She states in the quote the biggest problem is the month because there is such a demand for roses. She said if the wedding was 2 weeks after Vday prices would come back down to regular market value but supply and demand rule takes effect.

I will look into the one you mentioned.

I would suggest asking her for a breakdown, that way you can see exactly how much each item costs, and compare it if you get a quote from somewhere else.
Also, is it possible to eliminate the flowers at the church? We didn't do any, nobody noticed, and the pictures still look great.

I described to her  large red roses with a long, full a head( as the florist put it in) various stages of bloom. I have seen her quality of roses before and loved them. She said she uses Ecuadorian roses. I am assuming she's importing them from there? I dont know, Im not too up on flowers.

My quote was similar to USER's. I had 6 bridesmaids, 6 ushers, 2 flower girls, 2 ring bearers, 2 dad boutineers, 3 corsages for the moms and grandmother, two flower arrangements at the front of the church, 8 custom pew designs, flower petals on each side of the aisles, 16 high centerpieces, 8 smaller flower/candle combo vases for one part of the cocktail hour, flower petals on all of the tables and cake table, plus the main flower decoration for our head table. I got this for under 3K. Our main centerpieces we made of red roses, burgandy gerber daisies, sumatra lillies all on 28" water vases with floating roses in them. My wife's bouquette was a mix of black magic roses, freedom roses, burgundy calla lillies and gerber daisies.

My wife and I are visiting our florist at the end of the month to get our pictures. They've been ready for a few weeks (Robert Wayne is very fast) but we're the ones running behind schedule right now. I'll be glad to post them when we have them.

To make an edit on this one, her bouquette had the two different roses and the calla lillies. My bad..we used the gerber daisies in the bridesmaid bouquettes.

From your name I am guessing you may be a teacher. I would also look into Santos florist. He gives teachers a discount on top of his great prices. I loved my flowers!

ok so this is the reply I got from my first florist when I asked for a breakdown on the estimate. Not really liking the response....

"I do not price weddings on 'breakdown items", rather by box prices, especially at holiday times. The price of a case of roses is what determines the cost of this package, as a whole. The count of the other items, stephanotis, etc, are added on at the end. Based on supply and demand and quantity discounts, this is how I determine the total cost. It is always less expensive to group your theme into one or two types of flowers to take advantage of this, as you've done.
If you choose to remove anything, a new total price would have to be re-calculated based on individual flower-count and the labor charge involved."

Im thinking I wont be going with her.....
    Any thoughts????

I'm not sure about her response.. i can kind of understand that she pays a certain amount per box, but for example, if you eliminated a bouquet, how much less would you pay? She should still have an idea of how much each item costs, since your price would have to go down if you eliminated something. She should also be able to at least give you an idea of how much each of your centerpieces is costing you. I personally wouldn't like that answer.. I had gotten two florist quotes. The first one broke down the cost of every item for me on the quote. The second Florist that I ended up going with, beat the price by quite a bit, and also gave me a breakdown on the original quote. And I had all roses, as I said earlier.

Santos is in Newark, not sure where he will travel, but I've heard good things about them on here.

ETA- My second quote gave an estimated price for each item, for example $60 to  $70 for a bouquet, etc. The total ended up being a little over what we wanted to spend, so I just asked her "can you do it for $600?" and she said yes, no problem. I also originally wanted some stephanotis but decided to eliminate them later.

Ok so i just got home.....OMG AW Flowers is wonderful!!!! Adam is great. We booked with him tonight because he gave me a price that was awesome plus I am getting more than what the orginial florist quoted me. He totally got my vision and agreed with everything I said and even expanded upon it. The minute we started talking he totally put me at ease and basically said not to worry about the price. I told him what the first florist said about VDay and said it was complete nonsense because the day VDay is over the market price drops because all florist already have preordered their roses. He said there is an abundance of roses on the market then so the price drops down to regular market value or sometimes even lower.
Highly recommend that you go and meet with him. You willl not be sorry. If anyone has specific questions hit me up or PM me.
