welcome baskets

are they a must have? Any ideas of what to put in them? Lastly, any tips on transporting all these welcome baskets?

Re: welcome baskets

  • I don't think they are a must have.  I'm doing them but keeping it simple.  I got bags on VistaPrint.  Inside I have insulated cups, sunscreen, aloe, hand sanitizer, a candle and a portable fan. :)

  • They def are not a must, just a nice gesture. Depending on your destination you could buy some local things to put in them if you go that route to save on transferring.

  • I'm not sure if it's a must have.  I'd just assumed that we should have them as a gesture for those who made the trip to join us away.  They seem like  a great idea.  As for the transport seems like they would incur fees if had to pay for the luggage to carry on plane. but, I haven't figured that part out yet would love to here what some of the responses are
  • we are paying for all of our guests to go on a dinner cruise the night before our wedding and we are paying for everyone to go to the luau after our ceremony... So I'm not sure if that is a good enough incentive for coming or if we should make little baskets too?

We are also taking everyone out to dinner the day before and having a really nice ($260/plate currently, trying to cut some) station dinner for the wedding reception. We are having an informal get together on the Thursday before the wedding at a popular bar that has dancing and we will be giving out the gift bags at that time. I got some great deals on the stuff for the bags. I got the really nice canvas tote bags on clearance at Walgreens for $3.00 each. Inside, we're putting, a mixture of regualr disposible cameras for $1.99 each and underwater cameras $5.95 from ecamerafilms.com. We're putting sunscreen, OFF, and beach towels in all the bags that we picked up locally. I got 3'X6' nice beach towels from Kohls for $5.60 each. They were $7.99 and I used a 30% off coupon.

The rest of the stuff is coming from Orientaltrading.com. We ordered chapstick with our wedding info on it $10.50/dz, bottle labels with info on it to put over water bottles $12.75/50, personalized duffle bags for the groomsmen $16, personalized pen set for wedding party $10.50/ea, personalized water bottles for wedding party $10.50/ea, personalized golf towel for groomsmen $10.50/ea, personalized mirrior compact for bridesmaids $10.50/ea, personalized golf tees for groomsmen $16/50, wedding playing cards $8.50/dz, tropical bottle covers $8.50/dz, personalized wedding gum $22/100pcs. There is a ton more stuff on that site, but those are some of the items I chose for our baskets. I should add, that the shipping is free, and you can find codes for 15% off your entire purchase.

As far as getting it out there, we're alowed to check 2 bags each and carry on 1 bag each for free. We should be able to fit the stuff three checked bags, but if we cannot, the best man agreed to bring a bag for us and the manager of the villa agreed to hold a package for us if we choose to ship it to him. Hope this helps you get some good ideas.
