Outdoor Reception Venues that Accept Outside Caterers

Hi ladies,

This is my first post but I have been lurking around for awhile. My fiance' and I are planning a wedding in October of this year but are having a difficult time finding a reception venue that accepts outside caterers. My fiance's brother caters so there is no need to use anyone's prefered caterers.

We are looking to have no more than 125 guests there. We are looking for areas in or surrounding  Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill/Morrisville/Cary. We are planning a budget wedding and really would like any suggestions so we can get the ball rolling. The places we have looked all have prefered caters or they cater themselves. I REALLY love the DoubleTree Hotel location with the lakeside venue and tent reception BUT they don't accept outside caterers plus they are pricey anyway (including the catering).

I would prefer to have the wedding and reception relatively close since half our guest list are out of town. We are looking for a wedding venue too but wanted to find a reception venue first that would accept outside caters and then look for some outdoor areas to have the ceremony.

Thanks ladies in advance! This is definitely a process!

Not sure what you consider pricey.

Snipes Farm in Chapel Hill lets you bring in anyone you want for catering. You can also bring in the beer and wine (Mr. Snipes doesn't like liquor).

We got married in September, and the cost of the location from Friday until Sunday at noon was $2k.

Feel free to contact me if you want more information.

Are y'all planning on the ceremony and reception being outside?

Raleigh Rose Garden would be a great option.

Also Duke Gardens is beautiful and you can bring your own caterer. It just depends on if they have your date available since they do a lottery drawing at a year out.

Maybe even look into the Mordecai house. They have a little chapel on the grounds and the lawn is big enough for a tent. If FI and I weren't getting married in December, we would have loved to do this option.

Good luck! And do an intro post (see sticky) so we can get to know you better! :)

Bass Lake in Holly Springs might be an option: http://www.hollyspringsnc.us/dept/park/basslake/rentals.asp

My RD is at Montague Pond.  It's very inexpensive to rent--has a shelter for 120, plus it's very pretty and you could rent a tent.  There are some restrictions on amplified music because it's surround by residences.  You'd have to check with the owners to work through that.  If you google it, it shows up on a wedding photographer's website.

City parks are a great idea.  I went to a wedding at Mordecai and it was very nice.  The bride had BBQ because food wasn't her priority, a great band was.  It was a lot of fun--beautiful day in October.  Also attended a great May event at Borden House in Fletcher Park.  The ceremony there was outside and the reception could have been as well.  Anderson Park looks gorgeous in the photos, although I've never been out there.

    Good luck--(and hi Heather!!)
