  • I did purple. What kind of ideas are you looking for?

  • My FI is taking care of this part himself.  They are just going to wear nice dark suits.  But he won't let me even go to the tux store with them!  He really wants to take charge of this part and I will have to trust him, which I do.

I'm doing purple and green too! I was at Ikea last night and they have nice sage green craft sand to put in candle holders and what not.

  • We probably set things up in the late fall for our spring wedding. We just used Men's Wearhouse tuxes. H and I went -- we didn't involve the GM at all. We initially wanted to do suits instead of tuxes and do charcoal gray (colors were blue and red). But, the whole suit thing was going to prove to be lots of coordination in order for it to be any sort of deal for the guys, so we went with tuxes. However, I didn't do matchy vests (i.e. blue vests to go with blue dresses). We did black tuxes with charcoal vests and gray striped ties. They basically looked like suits and kept the low-key, classy look we were going for.

I'm trying to decide between buying suits and renting tuxes.  We want a look very similar to what you described. How much was the tux rental at Men's Warehouse?

$150 or $160 all in. To be fair, I wasn't super impressed with the guy who initially helped us with suits (that was our first approach, tuxes were the "consolation prize"). He was basically only showing us 1 or 2 suits and they were about $400 for just the jacket and pants. MW does buy one get one free sales, so we could have done that and the guys would have paid about $200 each, but again that didn't include shirts and shoes (if they didn't already have something) and ties. Also, we would've had to coordinate measurements of everyone and do a group buy during a sale, and it would've taken some effort. It annoyed me that the salesguy only showed us two suits in the entire store, I had to believe there were cheaper options. But, H was overwhelmed, and I know nothing about menswear, so we did tuxes.

Also, you'll notice my H wore a white vest. Forgot about that.

  • Meegles, I LOVE your dress, at least what I can see of it.  The bodice bling is awesome.  Thanks, for the info about your suit vs tux experience.

  • Hey, thanks! Now that you've seen it, I'm actually going to take the pics down...our nephews are in them and don't want them blasted all over the Internetz.

  • We just had our guys wear a black suit if they had it, if they didn't they bought one. My hubby didn't, and he got a black suit at Sears (where they sell the pants separate than the jackets so each is sized separately), I think it was $120.

I purchased a silver/gray & white herringbone vest for him, and we got him and the guys silver silk ties & pocketsquares.

Here is how they looked on our wedding day. You can't even tell the suits were not coordinated, and most of them had the jackets off once they got to the reception anyway, so they were wearing their own white shirts, the silver ties we gave them and their own black pants.
  • i forgot your original question...

Our guys just wore dark navy suits, white shirts, & navy ties. 1 guy already had one and the other 3 (incl H) bought theirs. You can get good deals at Jos A Banks. We personally did not like the look of tuxes (especially rented ones) because unless it's custom made, it doesn't look right. Plus, for the amount they would spend on a tux rental, they could get a suit to keep for the same price.

For my wedding, I did mostly white/ivory with hints of purple. I didn't want it to be an overload. So, invites, menus, & programs were white with purple ink, linens were ivory with ivory napkins, accent tables (cake, cocktail, gift, etc) were eggplant. Flowers were also mostly white or ivory wtih hints of purple (hydrenga's, calia lillies, lilac, purple haze roses). My H's mom found purple votives at Nordlie & we had those in the cocktail room & on the head table. I guess Nordlie is really cheap & they have a lot of stuff in bulk, like candles & other accessories.
