Check out Rick Steve's. He is by far my favorite travel writer at this point. www.ricksteves.com is his website. He sells his books on there and then he has "graffiti walls" where other travelers write of their experiences on certain topics. I like rummaging around on there. HTH! GL! =]
Rick Steves is good and I'd also recommend his books. I believe his book on Greece was last published in June of '09 so just be sure to check any places you might have interest in dining/visiting are still in operation since it's a year and half old.
When doing my research on a destination, I love the Eyewitness Guides. Although a lot of people critique that they lack on information, the photographs are stunning and really get me excited about going.
I also like Fodors guides although they are catering to less of a budget conscious demographic for the most part.
we used the lonely planet books - we had one on Greece and one on the Greek Islands. The latter was amazing for us, we spent a lot of our trip island hopping. the info was really good in there EXCEPT the ferry prices and schedules (we went in '08 so whatever was the current book at that point is the one we used). the ferries were not as cheap or as frequent as the book said. we spent a couple days on each island we went to. i recommend using a travel agent near arrival to book your next ferry ticket - especially if you're keeping costs down, sometimes there are only the fast, expensive ferries running. it's good to have options, i'd book the ferries a day or two in advance.
fav island - Ios! santorini was amazing and we LOVED crete - great little place off the beaten path called plakias - highly recommend! for the smaller islands, we rented an ATV for the day (pretty cheap) - it was by far the best way to explore the island and a great way to find nearly sparse beaches!
