The Knot Virus

Maybe I'm the only one, but the past three days from 2 seperate computers I have been redirected when clicking on a link on TK to a "virus protection" website page that has a pop-up that won't go away unless you click ok, which as I learned on another computer a year ago will lead to a virus. The only way to get out of it is to end the task of the internet. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Re: The Knot Virus

  • Yeah, I was getting that last week.
    Anniversary
  • I was having it happen to me a few days ago, but it hasnt been happening since then. I also have a virus protection thing on my computer and it says something about how it is a virus but there is no action required for it. So i think it took care of itself.
  • I got it once when I was trying to make my profile private. Scared the shiiit out of me.
  • edited July 2012
I was getting it when I clicked on "Threads I'm watching".  My virus protection stopped it pretty quick!

Edited*   Thought I'd give it a try now.... happened again!

  • ugh I just got it again when I was going to check out someones page.
  • Yes, I get it too when clicking in different areas...

  • I got it too!  But when it popped up for me if I exited out of the page it was ok, I ignored the pop-up and it went away with the page.  Gotta watch out for those!
  • I haven't gotten it recently but I did get it a few months ago or so. It goes to a website that looks like it's supposed to be your antivirus or something. I think this is what led to me wiping my computer so be careful..

This is the same kind of popup I get, and it IS a virus/spyware/malware thing, and it can destroy your computer.  I've gotten it a couple times in the past two weeks or so.  Not from the boards, but from other parts of the site - at least once looking at my own profile, and another time when looking at pictures of weddings.
  • Happened to me on 2 different computers. This sucks. Deadlines are coming fast and furious and now I am too afraid to check or it will ruin my computer. UGH! Bad timing on so many levels!
  • I also had it pop up on two different computers.... and it really freaked me out! The frustrating things is that and it doesn't seem to be connected to any particular link. I'm less than 3 months from my wedding, so I'm in hard core wedding mode, and I feel like all of my guest list information is in jeopardy. Please reassure me it will be ok! *sigh*
  • Glad to know I'm not the only one who's seen this. Also relieved it's not a standard part of the website! :)
  • This happened to me twice. Not sure what I was doing on the first occasion. On the second occasion, I was clicking on different centerpiece pictures; and I got the same message as the first time, a blank webpage with a warning box in the center. This says that my computer has a virus. You have to click in the warning box to get out, which is scary. My malwarebytes responds with a warning of a fake pop up app, and gives the IP address. Didnt write the address down. Sorry I don't have more specifics, I get panicked :
  • I'm getting this message also. Is there an actual virus? Do I need to do anything to my computer??

  • I have seen it several times in the last week as well and just got it again right after I got on the site to check somethings.  I googled it and found this thread so I figured I would let you know everytime it happens to me it's not even on the same page of the site nor does it happen everytime I log on.  I just close the internet and re open and go back in and nothing for a bit and then out of no where it will pop up again.  Hadnt been on in a couple days so I thought I would give it a try and see if it was fixed and it apparently isn't.  Hope you get it figured out soon because I need on here with only 33 days to go before the big day I need my planner! lol
    Thanks

I have been having the same problem as well.  It's very frustrating.  Especially, since I am trying to keep updated with MY KNOT and can't!
  • Yes I get this all the time recently, I know better than to click on the scam but it means I have to close out of the internet and re-open, super annoying.
I have also starting saving all my info in other places just in case it gets worse....Would really like it if the KNOT DID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!

Me too. ALL the time. I can't seem to get anything done. :-/
  • I've been seeing this for at least the past 2 weeks.  It tends to pop-up when I click the tools link on the homepage, or after clicking onto the tools page when I click the guest list link.

  • I've gotten it too.  I have to shut down my computer every time I try to use this website.  I get the blue screen of death and everything.  I would really encourage the knot IT people to get on this.  They are going to lose advertisors and members.  I'm glad I didn't rely on too many of their resources to plan my wedding, I'd really be in trouble right now.
  • It has happened to me two times this week. So frustrating.
  • It's happened to me almost every time I click a link that I receive in my email!
  • I'm getting it EVERY TIME i hit the site; major annoyance ! I just got engaged Friday night, and am a new member.
  • It keeps happening to me from random things I click on at the knot.  I'll just have to do my wedding related research on the wire or something.

    DITTO!! DITTO!! Annoying!!!
  • Everytime I go to add a new response in to my guest list, I get the virus protection screen!  It is driving me insane!  Has anyone contacted the creators about this?
  • happens to me alot! Makes me not want to use this site anymore!!
  • I don't know if it's my computer, but it only really happens on this site. I can't seem to get to My Vendors. It's been loading for about ten minutes now, and yesterday it said they were gone. I also tried it on my phone and it did pull up but it took a while. I used Internet Explor and now Chrome. Is this happening to you?
