June 2013 Weddings

What is your FI most interested in?

FI was at work today (he's a full-time firefighter who works 24 hr shifts) so we were texting back and forth. We haven't done much planning yet, so I was asking him what parts of the ceremony/reception were the most important to him. I'm very Type A and I don't want to bug him with every.little.detail.

His response? Food, alcohol and the ceremony. I thought that was cute that he is interested in the ceremony :)

What are your FI's priorities when it comes to wedding planning?

Re: What is your FI most interested in?

  • food, cake, dj, and what the guys are wearing. Although, I actually have a FI who really wants to be involved, hes not the type of guy who wants me to plan everything and he just shows up, so I am pretty lucky!

  • food... if that. FI is only interested in being married to me which I can't really complain about but whenver I ask him anything wedding related it's like everything else, "Whatever you want love, I'm sure it will be great." Then again I was told by a friend from Dún Laoghaire it was typical Irish guy take on weddings

Sound and music, both at ceremony and reception.  Examples:

    1) We're changing our date so he can have the DJ he likes.

    2) When we decided on a church to look at, he was like, "yeah and the sound will be good because we [his dad's company] installed the sound system!"

    3) We were shoveling snow a few weeks ago (it's been a few weeks since it's snowed here!) and he said, totally out of the blue, that he had asked a good friend to play guitar/sing at our ceremony.  I was expecting that we would, but that he already did kind of came out of no where!  He also said that he asked my cousin's fiance to sing too!  I was also planning on asking her to sing also, because she has a beautiful voice, but again... out of the blue!

4)He also said he had part of a song picked out that he wants me to walk down the aisle to.  It's a totally sweet idea and the song sounds very pretty, but I'm not too fond of the lyrics (they're not romantic at all).  We may not be able to use it anyway, because I don't know if the church we're thinking of will let us use secular music.

Other than that, he doesn't care about too much in our wedding, I guess.  As long as I don't spend too much money! :)

  • Sparkles, yes we did.  Luckily, we hadn't put any money on June 29, so it's pretty easy to switch ;)

  • Food...making sure there is enough of a craft beer selection...and the band. So far, that's about it, though he does give me his opinion on other things. But those 3 are definitely his areas of focus. :)

  • Venue, Officiants/Ceremony, Music, Food. Once we had the venue & date checked off FI was very relieved, and the place we went with has excellent food :) We're having an interfaith ceremony and that's been really important to him (us) as well.

He's def curious and has opinions about the other stuff. I'm super type A myself, and I realize I'm the only one that really cares about the tiny details, so when it comes time to make a decision I usually narrow it down first to ~3 options before asking him to pick.

  • He is actually pretty involved in everything (and sort of picky!).  He cares what he is wearing, what booze will be there (we are stocking it ourselves), that the venue looks like a barn, and that the church isn't too much of a hassle so we can have a pretty ceremony.  He wants cowboy boots, his hat, and me in a white dress lol.

  • I'm really lucky to have a FI that is very involved in the entire process. He's most concerned with food, cake and the general look of the reception. His brother recently was married in the same place and he wants to make sure it looks completely different. He's more interested in chair covers then I am! LOL

  • I have completed created a wedding monster in my FI!  He went to a bridal show with me a few weeks ago, and now has definite ideas about what kind of cake we're going to have, he has opinions on photographers.  He's already chosen our first dance song, "Here, There and Everywhere" by the Beatles.  I had an idea about repurposing glass jars into vases for our centerpieces, and he went out to buy a glass cutter on his lunch break yesterday, and was going through the recycling bin to get jars until late last night.

  • FI is very involved in the entire wedding. I ask his opinion on EVERYTHING. The only thing he gets no say in is my dress because he doesn't get to see it.

  • My FI is Also the "whatever you want to do" type! ugh it can be slightly frustrating when I am asking him questions and I get "if you like it" for an answer. He is very supportive in everything I decide to do, but he keeps insisting that "its your day, you should have what you want". But It's OUR day! He did however state the other day that he doesnt matter what anything looks like, because the important part to him is just being able to call me his wife at the end. I cried a little. lol

  • My FI is pretty involved in the whole process, except for the minor details.  For the details, he likes it when I come up with a few different options and then we both talk about what we like best and make a decision from there.
  • We're still in the infant stages of planning but at the moment, my FI's biggest interests are, in no particular order: (1) ceremony location - he really wants us to be married at a specific location; (2) photographer; (3) his tux - he wants a Mandarin-style collar; and (4) food - he votes for BBQ. He has gone to check out several venues with me and about 90% of the time he will talk about wedding stuff with me. But he definitely does not want to check out any bridal shows. It'll be interesting to see how involved he gets in the planning as it progresses.

  • My FI is interested says he is only interested in the food, alcohol, music, and wants a short ceremony. But I know he will help with more than just that.

  • Hello Ladies! First time posting on the month board as I thought I was going to be a May 2013 bride. Ended up pushing the date back a month in order to get the reception venue we wanted.

Anyway, I'm very lucky in that my FI is very helpful/ interested in a lot of the big picture things, like the ceremony cite, reception cite, food, DJ (and music list) as I'm currently in my first year of law school. On the weekend I generally give him a few things to find ideas for and then we narrow it down together. He is also very adament about purple. Weirdly enough, doesn't care about the photographer. He also doesn't really care about the littler things, like which shade of purple, which is good becuase I've changed it three times now, lol.
