Book recs

This was a good morning thread, but Manda beat me to it again.

So, I'll turn it into a poll: I'm finishing up the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. What should I read next?

  • HEY! QUIT STEALING MY THUNDER!
  • Good morning! Weekend was good. Saturday, H took my car to have all the servicing crap done on it and I sorta cleaned the house. Mostly read while be played a football game on the Xbox. Sunday, we went out to a 'farm' where we picked pumpkins and had dinner. The dinner was redic! It was a set menu, served family style. We got a whole fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, salad and dessert.

  • You should start the Stephen King series Dark Tower. It's not all creepy and death like all of his others. IT's AMAZING.

  • I've heard a lot of good things about that one, LVB!

That trip to the farm sounds awesome, BTW. We were supposed to go cider pressing this weekend at a local farm, but it fell through. I was pretty bummed about it.
  • Well we were super pumped about it....but then it turned out to be almost 90 yesterday. Not so awesome for 'fall' activities.

  • That's too bad. We've been fully into the fall weather for a while. I'm actually thrilled to be working at home today because my office is hovering around 50 degrees. They haven't fired up the heat yet.

<div>I've heard amazing things about this but haven't gotten around to picking it up yet :( ... I'm still tackling my list of dumb chick lit... it's just so addicting... <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" /></div>

    Shanghai Girls
    Life of Pie
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Never Say Goodbye

    Any Jeffery Deaver
Any Patricia Cornwell (start with Post Mortem)
Fish got me hooked on the damn Lee Child series of Jack Reacher books and I just finished the first one  - The Killing Floor.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew

I'll second this recommendation. They are really good.
  • In the Heart of the Sea:The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex. Just finished reading. Probably one of the most engrossing novels I've read in a while -- especially considering it is non-fiction and everything being told ACTUALLY happened... it's insane.
  • Perfect for Halloween: The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe.

It is written by a descendent of two women accused of being Salem witches and is about an undiscovered witch, who really was a (good) witch.

It came out last year and I've already read it twice.
