I did magnets for my save the dates, they came out really nice and it's a fun idea. I think that there is too much information to do the actual invitation as a magnet but it depends on your wedding as well.
Ya I would suggest against it as well. Although the STD magnets are super cute they are because they are small, a wedding invitation needs to be a bit larger to get all your info on it )
We are not having a lavish wedding, its going to be very simple, with a max of 80 people, the ceremony and reception are going to be in the same room, and we are not putting very much on the invitations anyways, and we only have a few people who actually need a far in advance notice.

I would suggest Michaels or Vistaprint. I got 70 invitations & rsvp's for $86 (including taxes and shipping) during their 50% off promotion. Sign up for emails and keep an eye on them. Vistaprint has some great invitations (mine are in my bio). Michaels has some really cute ones as well for inexpensive. GL!

Your wedding deserves a proper invitation, not a refrigerator magnet.
