Eyebrow Waxing?

Ok ladies,

I have never had my eyebrows waxed. I have always plucked them myself. I want to get them waxed for the wedding. So I have two questions:

1. How long do you have to let them grow before you can get them waxed?

2. How long before the wedding should they be done (when are you getting yours done)?

Thanks!

Re: Eyebrow Waxing?

  • Ill be having mine done the day of or a day or two before.  My ceremony isn't until 6pm so any redness or puffiness will go away in about a hour or so.....I'll have it done in the morning or a few days before....if its long enough to pluck then its long enough to wax!  I love waxing!!!

Just from experience I would go have them done soon so you can find someone who does it the way you like.  If they don't know how you like them they could do what they think you want & end up with you not being happy with it.  I plan to do the day before the wedding.  My sister is my cosmetologist & I usually get a wax every two weeks.  I'd say when the hairs long enough to pluck it's about long enough to wax.
oh! and if you have sensitive skin like me the oils they use can cause acne.  Another reason I'd say to get it done earlier then right before for your first time, to make sure how your skin reacts.  My sister doesn't use the clean up oils on me anymore I just wash my face with my normal face wash instead.

  • I think the general rule for waxing is 1/8'', not positive if that goes for eyebrows, too.
If you've never had yours done before, I'd suggest going in soon and getting it done so that if they do too much, you have some time for them to grow back.

I usually do mine a day or 2 before an event, so that the redness/puffiness has time to go away. Just be specific with what you want. I always ask them to just clean them up a little and keep my natural shape.

  • You should definitely do a test run now - you have no idea how your skin will react to the wax or the pulling.  My MUA was telling me about someone who had her eyebrows waxed for the first time a couple days before the wedding and had a piece of skin get pulled off leaving a giant scab above the bridge of her nose for the wedding.  I'm not trying to scare you, but you don't want to be messing around with your face the week of your wedding.

I haven't decided if I'm going to get my eyebrows done.  If I did, I would probably ask friends for recommendations on where to go or read a bunch of online reviews and find a reputable salon for it.  I'd do a couple test runs, to make sure I was getting the shape that I wanted.  (This would require me starting this week).  I would probably go the day before the wedding and early, to make sure any redness or swelling would go down.
  • I have mine done regularly, but I have sensitive skin.  If I have a special event I try to get them done 5 or 6 days in advance because it takes my skin that long to fully recover.  I would encourage you to try it out first, as pps have mentioned, you want to know how your skin will react and get an idea of what shape you are looking for.

  • I am having them done a week before...
  • Ah! I definitely don't want to be missing skin or an eyebrow for the wedding! Lol. Guess I better book an appointment asap. My skin is sensitive.

    Thanks for the advice!

  • I just got mine done this week and my skin was exceptionally sensitive for some reason this time. I got them done thursday afternoon and they were red all weekend. Also, make sure you keep them clean and the person waxes them correctly, because I have a clogged pore and pimple just above my eyebrow now! I think this will be the last time and I'll just keep them clean and plucked until the wedding.

  • My eyebrows grow pretty slow so this Saturday is my last wax and then I can pluck anything that grows in between now and the wedding. I'm a pretty decent plucker so I'm not worried about it.

Since you've never been I would go about 1-2 weeks before the wedding because even now whatever is in the wax can give me whiteheads all around my eyebrows for 3-4 days afterwards. You woudn't want that for the wedding.

  • I'm actually having mine done this week, because like others, my skin is super sensitive and can be very red and bumpy after waxing. I will try to be good about keeping the shape and whatnot myself between now and the big day.

(I also have a coupon for a free one that expires Wednesday, ha, so that'll definitely light a fire under one's ass about it.)

  • I actually prefer threading. I feel like it gives a nicer overall look and I have yet to find a threader who didn't do a stellar job. Also, it's faster (and I personally think less painful). Just a thought.

  • I agree with the other posters...go and have a trial run.  I have very fair, sensitive skin and I am red for sometimes 2 days after.  For the wedding, I will go about a week before.

For your other question, ususally if it's long enough to pluck , it can be waxed.

  • I agree with emswanson! I am now a devout threader. I have really sensitive skin, so waxing leaves my skin red for days and I break out. Plus, the shape was never really what I wanted. With threading, it always is precise and perfect. It does make my eyes water (but then again so does waxing) and I love love love it! I like it better too becaue they get rid of the baby fine blonde hairs on my forehead which make my naturally lighter eyebrows appear darker.
