Vent! Why can't people plan ahead?!

So WAY back in August two of my boyfriend's friends offered to share an apartment with me when I moved down to Colorado. I like both of these girls so I was fine with it. But one of them was doing an internship in Ohio until the beginning of April so I just moved into the student housing building for this semester and we all decided that once the semester ended we would get an apartment together. I was fine with that. Student housing is expensive but I could stretch my budget for three months and deal with it.

Well now, the semester and my lease are up in less than three weeks and this morning these two girls tell me they can't do it anymore! One says she just doesn't have the finances and she wants to be near her family. The other is getting married next year and says that she has to save everything that she has in order to do that so she is going to live with mommy and daddy too. Fine whatever, i really don't care what their excuses are I care that they choose to tell me this with less than 3 weeks to figure things out. I am PISSED! Seriously WTF?

So I have a few options.
1) I can un-register for my summer classes (which I really need to take since they are prerequisites. for my fall classes) and move back to Idaho (11 hours away from my boyfriend and we just got done doing long distance 4 months ago) and use that time to figure out what the hell i'm going to do now.
2) I can try to find a cheap apartment to rent by myself.
3) I can try to find someone who is looking for a roommate and just hope that they are not a crazy axe murderer.
4) My one last glimmer of hope is I think there is a girl in one of my classes looking for a roommate and we get along pretty well. So I will talk to her tomorrow.

This is really just a vent. They totally screwed me over! I'm already stressed with finals and recovering from surgery I really didn't need this. I like to have things planned out and organized and lately everything has just been going to sh!t! I am just so angry! Their financial situations haven't changed, they just didn't both to figure things out in the like 8 months they have had before now.

No matter what, people will always do whats right for them and 99% of the time it will be a total inconvience to you. It is pretty crappy they didn't inform you sooner about it.

That completely sucks!  I haven't been in the EXACT situation, but, I've had to find housing quickly before.
When I was in college, I would find random places to live during the summer (parents house is 6 hours away) so I could keep my dance teaching job and stay where I was.  One summer I moved in with a girl that had posted she needed a roommate on FB. Yea, I didn't know her - it was in the marketplace section.  She attended the same college as I did, and her parents owned a duplex that she lived in during the school year and they rented during the summer to students that were basically in my situation.  I 'interviewed' them, as well as them interviewing me - and it just worked out.  I rented one bedroom and had the rest of the house - and I lived with one other girl who was barely ever there.
Another summer I found a lady on roommates.com who owned a home and rented out her upstairs.  She lived in the fully finished basement, and I rented the upstairs bedroom/bathroom. It ended up working out really well!
I haven't had a crazy scary axe-murderer experience (and I'm in St. Louis.. not a super small town, there are crazies) - but I would recommend if you find a random person to definitely do your research.  Roommates.com could be a great source - or looking at the bulletin boards around school! If you're in a 'college town' or college area, it might be easier than you think - you just gotta search the right places.
So, I guess I would try to find someone and as a backup plan, plan to go home for a little while - could you take those pre-reqs at a comm. college at home living with your parents until you figure it out?

I totally thought this was about the "pre-plan" the wedding post...

so uh... yeah... sucks about the roommate thing.  While they are within their rights to do what's best for their finances, they definitely should've told you earlier so that you could've made plans of your own.  I'm sure everything will work out for the best.  Quick question: have you thought about moving in with your BF? (or are you waiting until marriage for that?) It could save you money AND not have to be LDR :-)

That's horrible . i'm sorry you are stuck in such a bind. It's unfortunate but this is why it's hard to depend on people and always helps to have a backup plan. Hope things work out.

Wow, that's really crappy of them to wait so long to tell you!

I don't know where in Colorado you are, but Denver and Boulder both have pretty safe craigslists.  When I lived in Boulder, I found some really awesome housing arrangements on craigslist.  I also found some really sketchy ones, but the majority of people are friendly and not ax murderers :-)  Usually you can weed out the crazies within fifteen minutes of meeting them, eg "don't pick up that phone, it's connected to my ankle bracelet" or "Do you have any piercings, because we like to get naked and chain all ours together." (not making either of those up, sadly).  Bring a friend with you if you're worried about going alone, and just be smart.  If the e-mail exchange or phone call creeps you out, don't bother looking at that place.

One place I lived was $300/mo, a three bedroom house with a HUGE yard and garden in a great location with two really nice Buddhist guys who were starting their own custom chopper business.  I've never eaten so well in my life, all fresh veggies!  Average rent in Boulder is well over $500 for anything, so it was definitely a lucky find.
