first NPF class on Monday!

I'm a bit excited...

I read TCOYF, and for the past month or so I've been half-heartedly trying to observe my CM, but I really don't think there's all that much of it, or even much of a pattern! I told FI that we (he is going to call me in the morning so he can feel like he is helping) we can start recording temps after the first class (or the next day 1.) But... I'm  probably unnecessarily worried that the temps won't help at all, especially since I do drink alcohol several nights a week (and didn't the book say that will mess up your temp?)

So...basically, I'm just worried that we/I'm not going to be able to figure it out. :-/
Please tell me that it's going to be ok and that *everyone* can figure it out, even if it takes them a few months! (is that even true? or is there anyone that it just doesn't work for?)

I'd recommend creighton model...since you are having a hard time finding cm...and the temps will be off.

You will figure it out. It takes most people a bit to really get the hang of NFP, regardless of method.

You do, however, need to get dedicated to doing it correctly every time to observe for CM, especially since it sounds like your temp will not be an overly reliable sign, though I think some ladies here have one drink doesn't have a big impact on their temp.

Do you have other reasons to believe that you might have reproductive problems? Is there a family history of infertility? Are your cycles long or heavy or do you bleed for more than a week? If so, you might want to look into a Creighton class soon so that you can diagnose and treat the underlying issues. If not, your ST instructors can probably help you get the hang of it and observe your CM/other fertility signs.

I wouldn't worry too much about the alcohol unless you're getting smashed every single night of the week.  1 drink with dinner won't mess up your temps.

If you do smashed one night and go to sleep, take your temp in the morning as normal but make note in your chart that you drank the night before so you may need to not include that temperature in your chart.  It's ok to have a couple missed temperatures here and there, the biggest thing is to see a pattern of biphasic temperature shifts.  One thing I found helpful is to not drink when ovulation is imminent (as distinguished by CM), or drink every other day. so that you don't confuse a potential drinking temperature spike with ovulation temperature spike.

It took me about 3 months to get the hang of it.  I took a CCL class and read TCOYF.  I thought it was very helpful to do both.  Worked great for us when were trying to avoid.

If you don't see any signs of CM, but you're getting your period on a fairly regular basis, you may need to start checking internally.  Just make sure you are consistent in any given cycle as to whether you're checking internally or externally.

Lalaith - what class are you taking? Do you like the class? I'm from the Detroit-area, too, and the Marriage course we took didn't cover NFP (all we got was a one page brochure explaining what NFP was). I really want to do this but don't know where to start... Thanks :)
