PIP - Picked up my dress and i have doubts that I made the correct choice

Ok ladies my turn to freak out...
I picked up my dress from AA on Saturday –I tried it on and had once of the staff take some pictures – I was ok in the store but when I got home I looked at the pictures and think the dress looks horrible and unfaltering
(one of the hottest days ever so pardon the hair)

<<--- yes this is with the spray tan lol I am that pale!

The good news is I was a size 22 when ordered, but did the no no and ordered a 20 and it fits & zips –
Burt I am so unhappy with how it poofs at my true waist and I keep telling myself it is cause I need the ball gown slip…. I am not sure if I need to add a sash or something to drop the waist I think the larger size (tried a 24or 26) fell lower on my body….

Here is a pic from march with the slip and the larger size on a slightly larger me

Also my mom keeps telling me to convert it to a corset back…
I had wanted one but now i am not sure if it is worth it or if it would look funny because of how high the waist it – I found a back of a diff dress that I think might work… thoughts??? Should i just try and find a new dress before I spend all this money on alterations

  • it's GORGEOUS !!   I would not convert it to a corset.  Not with how high the poofyness comes up in the back.

I'm sure the larger size did fall lower on your body, but I really don't think you have anything to worry about.  If you want to add some color or detail with a sash, I don't think that's a bad idea.  But, I think you look beautiful.
  • PS.  Get the big ballgown slip.  Put on a corset bra/waist cincher underneath... it will pull your waist in some... and they might be able to take in a little bit around your waist.. if that's the part you are worried about.

I don't think that small of a corset is going to make a bit of difference how you feel about the dress.   The dress is very beautiful but seems to cut you off in a weird place...  I think adding a sash with some oomph to it like:  http://ny-image2.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.259687678.jpg  would make it flow better.   Also if you are self-conscious - what about adding some spanx underneath that might pull you in a little more.  I had my AA gown converted to a corset but it was because the dress didn't fit when it came in - but mine isn't a ballgown like yours.  I think the amount of money you will pay for a corset change is not going to be worth it to you.  Hope this helps.

Edit:  also  - when you have it altered - you can ask for it to be let out a bit in the back so it lays better.  I had this done and it did wonders!
  • I think the dress looks gorgeous! I think the slip makes all the difference and that may be why you don't like it in the most recent pictues. Also, a corset will help too.

  • It was from a classified ad on weddingbee which I followed from google images - I just followed the link to: http://www.etsy.com/shop/yanethandco   I dont see that exact one listed but they can probably duplicate the one you like. :)

  • i think you look beautiful! the slip makes it look so much better too.
  • I love the dress. You look great in it and I love it the back. I would not do a corset.

Love the dress.  I agree that maybe you should have the puff slip under it but regardless you look FAB!

  • I totally understand. My dress came in ridiculously early.... and left me with entirely too much time to worry. I went dress shopping 3 more times and bought another dress at a sample sale.  I ended up selling the second dress I bought.

Just breathe... go back and try it back on with the slip in a week or so.
