QOTD 1/30

Do you and your FI do anything for Valentine's day?

Re: QOTD 1/30

  • We usually just go out to dinner and then I'll surprise him with something fun for later Wink
  • Usually dinner as long as one of us isn't working, which has only been a couple of times, and then sometimes I'll do the same as Julie.  We usually don't do big things when we celebrate stuff, we're good with dinner or walking around the city or doing something like ice skating if it's a winter thing like Valentine's Day.
  • We have always gone out in the past and exchanged small gifts, but this year we're just going to watch a romantic comedy we already own and have a nice dinner together at his apartment. I want to watch P.S. I Love You even though it makes me cry pretty much the entire time. Gerard Butler is too pretty and nice to die so early. :( (Even if it is just a movie)
  • Normally, we have a at home dinner and movie date. I recieve a gift at my job, which always make me feel extra special.

  • We are going to the Melting pot for dinner. However, we always have to celebrate at least a week early or week late. Its a huge week in the restaurant business and with fi being a restaurant manager he works all week.

We are only exchanging cards this year but I am super excited about the card I got him. Has anyone seen the scrabble tiles that spell out LOVE but an engagement ring is the O? Its all over pintrets. Well last night my cousin took a picture doing this using my ring. So I am making it a card for fi for valentines day. I wonder how ling until he realizes its my ring.

  • We usually go out for dinner or make a special dinner.  One year I had our conference meet and didn't get home until midnight,  and FI (then BF) surprised me with a scavenger hunt! It was so cute.
  • We either go out to dinner or stay in and make dinner. We only ever did gifts our first year together.

  • We ususally go out for dinner and get each other a small gift. Just a little something, especially where we don't usually spend extra money on us.

  • We typically make dinner together and then watch a movie or something.  Usually we get little gifts for each other but I don't think we will this year.

  • We don't get into Valentine's Day too much.  We feel like it's too much hoopla for just one day.  We typically exchange cards and either go out or cook a nice dinner at home.
  • We've had 3 Valentine's day in our relationship so far and he's been gone for 2 for Basic Training and his deployment. Last year when he was deployed he had an iPad shipped to me haha. I told him a guy at work at one and used it for presentations and I thought it was a good idea but not getting one anytime soon. Next thing I know it's Valentine's day and I got one lol
  • Nothing becuase Fi is on a business trip :( So I guess a phone date is all.

We usually don't do much anyway. Sometimes we exchange cards and make dinner together.

  • We make fresh pasta together with a sauce from scratch, then exchange gifts and watch a movie.  Sometimes we'll go to a restaurant the weekend after.

Due to work and school this year though, I don't know if we'll be able to hold up the tradition.  We prefer making stuffed pastas (ravioli, tortelloni) but if we can even make pasta this year we'll probably have to settle for fettucchine or something much quicker.  We'll see though :-/

Usually just go to dinner, exchange cards, I get flowers. This year I am planning on making him breakfast, dinner, and cute V-Day desserts. I'll give him a card, but no gift (or maybe something small). I want to go see "The Vow" too, but I'll probably have to drag him there... I might surprise him with some lingerie too. Two days before V-Day is a year that we've been engaged, so we are going to dinner to celebrate then.

  • This year we will be doing one of our favorite things. FI and I are huge Boston Bruins fans and we have season tickets. This year there's a game on Valentine's day in Boston so we will be going to that! We go often so not super exciting but I just love bruins games!

    <div>Wow, that's awesome!</div>
  • he usually buys me a couple of little gifts and flowers... we've never really gone out to dinner because FI hates when places are crowded =(  this year it falls on a Tuesday and I have to work until 8 so we will probably wait until the weekend and go to dinner and a movie... I really want to see "The Vow"
  • We usually do a gift and dinner or something like that. This year we wont be doing a thing. We can't afford it and I am so okay with that. I think I will make him a special dinner.

  • He usually makes me cupcakes and I make a nicer dinner. No gifts really, especially since his birthday is right before V-day and it's hard to find gifts for him!

  • Last year FI and I had only been dating about a month. I was still living about 2 hours away and he drove all the way to my apartment to surprise me.  He decorated my apartment with rose petals and a couple little stuffed animals  and was waiting in my room when I got home from work.  It was amazing!!  This year i will have just had surgery so I'm guessing it will be a night on the couch with a movie.  Which sounds perfect to me!

We weren't going to, but FI had made reservations at this new, great restaurant a long time ago, so we're going there and I'm really looking forward to it.

He also normally plans on us going to see a movie or a play, but I'm always too tired. I'm such a debbie downer.
ETA: But I might not be too tired for The Vow!

Our first valentine's he went super cheesy romantic. They had carriage rides Downtown and we went on one. I love to tease him with how corny he was. I just enjoy some flowers and a couple pieces of Godiva chocolate.

Super jealous! We are Sharks fans and will be watching a game on the TV from Portland :(.

My birthday is the 13th so we won't do much for the 14th. V-Day was never big in my house growing up because my dad's first marriage was on that day and him and my mom chose not to celebrate that. LOL

I will cook us a nice dinner, but nothing else.

  • Last year, when we were still just dating (and hadn't been dating for too long, either!), FI brought me vegan macaroons with a letter drizzled on each one with chocolate. I had to rearrange them and they spelled out "valentine." It was cute. We won't do gifts, though, and we use our anniversary date as our monthly date night, so probably won't go out.
  • This is a super cute idea if you are doing a v-day breakfast or brunch with your Fi. I might make this on the weekend! I love it :)

  • No, we don't understand why the marketing world tells us what day is to be special, we have 'our' special days that we will celebrate / make sure we spend quality time together one..

  • We started dating about a week after Valentine's Day in 2005.  Since VDay and our "anniversary" were so close together and we lived 3 hours apart for 3 years at college we would generally do something one of the weekends around there like make a nice dinner.  Usually it's just a nice dinner at home.  Last year we were going to go out on VDay but I was sick so we made pizza at home together.  This year we're going out, as long as I don't get sick again!

Sometimes FI sends me flowers, and we usually do a card but that's about it.
    Anniversary
  • We normally just go to dinner and he will sometimes get me flowers or candy.  Nothing too fancy.
  • We've only not been long distance two of our six Valentine's Days (including this one). The first two we were apart, so we celebrated before/after V Day by either going out to eat or cooking dinner together. The two we weren't apart, one we went to lunch and then had an engagement party to go to that night and the other we were in Disney World. We had breakfast at the restaurant in Cinderella's Castle and dinner at one of the nice restaurants at the Grand Floridian. So much fun and the best Valentine's Day ever! Last year and this we'll just have a Skype date like every other day! We don't usually do gifts, although I do get flowers usually.

  • Our first year together he got me flowers and the dangling heart pandora charm.  Then we went out to dinner at a steak house.  The next day, on V-Day we went to see Valentine's Day which was a totally stupid movie.

Last year we continued the traditon and went to the same steak house but didn't do any gifts.

This year we will celebrating on the 16th.  Our venue is a banquet kind of facility and the chef there has his own restaurant with a 5 room Inn above it so they do a lot of package deals.  Part of our package when we booked our wedding was that we get a complimentary dinner at the restaurant since we don't have a tasting.  (We've tasted the food at the bridal show and have also heard great things so we aren't worried.)  We figured we might as well use it this year.  We actually went to our other steak house for our 2 year anniversary in November.
