Inexpensive Reception ideas

We are on a very tight budget, as I'm sure quite a few people are these days.  We want to do a get-together after the wedding, not so much a "traditional" reception.  Don't need dance floor, or lots of speeches, etc.  Just a gathering of family and friends for some light snacks, cake and punch.  The wedding is in FW at 2:30, mid September so the weather has a good chance of being nice.  It also has the chance of the opposite.  I'm looking for ANY ideas that rental would cost less than $300.  We only have no more than 40 guests.  No idea is silly to me. Help?

Re: Inexpensive Reception ideas

  • Where is your ceremony taking place?

Is $300 just for the rental?  Not including food?  You could try something like Pappadeaux.  Stephie hosted a friend's birthday party at one in one of their rooms.  However, I don't think she shared the cost of the event.  You could definitely try smaller restaurants.  They might like to have some midday Saturday business.
  • Where in FW is the wedding? Just curious, because you probably want the reception to be close by, and I know I live at one end of FW and work at the other end, and it's quite a hike.

In downtown Fort Worth, I know I looked at Fort Worth Community Arts Center and they rented individual gallery rooms by the hour and were very reasonable. I don't recall the exact cost, however, but the lady was very responsive to email so you should be able to find out easily. You bring in your own food/drinks there.

Times Ten Cellar is also near downtown, and also rents out space for a very reasonable price. I know they allow you to bring in food, although if you serve wine you have to serve theirs. Not sure if they'd let you have a party there and not serve their wine, but it's worth a shot. I've been to a reception there -- it's lovely!

The absolute least expensive options would be community centers and public parks. You can check this list of community centers and see if any are near your wedding venue (and take a drive/swing by to see them in person): http://fortworthtexas.gov/pacs/centers/

The fee schedule is here: http://fortworthtexas.gov/pacs/info/default.aspx?id=25266

I know there's a lovely community center in Hurst called the Brookside Center. But Hurst might be too far from your wedding venue.

  • I second Joe T's. It's beautiful!

  • Here are some photos that I think are from Joe T. Garcias. I want to say the have a banquet hall across fromt he restraunt. http://www.rockstarphotographyblog.com/2011/07/fort-worth-wedding-at-marty-leonard.html

Where is your wedding ceremony taking place? Lots of churches have banquet halls you can use for a small fee. And most have kitchens attached that you can use.

I also think with your party size  you might be able to have a champagne and cake reception at a B&B. If you do it on an odd night it might keep the cost down. I've never priced them, so I'm really not sure if they fit your budget.
