Has anyone else tossed out their seating chart?

I really just don't want to deal with it and with FMIL refusing to help me with the people I haven't even met that are her friends/people form work. Am I terrible for leaving 108 guests to fend for themselves?

Re: Has anyone else tossed out their seating chart?

  • Nope!  I've almost done the same thing multiple times out of sheer frustration.

  • You might want to come up with some cohesive plan...  Like no seating chart and meal cards to cue your caterer.  I wouldn't leave half your guests with somewhere to sit and half to figure it out!  We did a buffet so I wouldn't have to do a seating chart.  It was the one thing that made my head spin just thinking about it and I wanted NO PART of it!

  • We only have 40 ppl and are guests will be helping themselves at scattered stations so we don't have one.  But if you are serving plated meals you sort of need them.  What about just assigning tables?

  • If she will not help you, THEN DO NOT WORRY ABOUT!  I say that with alot of Knottie love.

If she does not help then any mad guests including her about where/whom with they sit is not anything on you.  Do not let her unwillingness ruin your day!  Sit them wherever/whomever and call it done.  Move on.
  • Oh hey, I just realized you're from Austin too!
I started to make one a few months ago, then it was brought to my attention that, in Texas, seating charts are out of the ordinary. And nobody really cares where they're sitting, just as long as there's seats. Especially if you're doing a buffet.
  • For 108 people I would assign tables. That seems like a lot of chaos otherwise. If FMIL won't help you just do the best you can.

<div>Ditto! If I had done that in Austin, everyone would have thought I was physco. We had a buffet with 115 guests and NO issues, but we did have seating for 125.</div>

  • I ended up tossing mine out the day off! We had two large tables reserved for parents and siblings, then let a couple with their disabled child come in and choose where they wanted to sit, then everyone else came in and had open seating. It woked out PERFECTLY! We had about 58 guests.

With 108, you may want to at least have some tables reserved for certain ppl, and then let everyone else sit where they please. Just make sure things are clearly marked or explained by someone and it should work out well.
  • Actually, I stressed about the seating chart, and in the end, people swapped tables and moved all over anyways. My escort board was super cute, but I defnitely could have saved time and money skipping the seating chart. You know your guests, do they like order or are they ok finding chairs on their own?

also, what worked for us is that we had 200 guests for a room that sat 240. There was room for people to decide, so you should take that into consideration as well. :)

<div>This! I assigned tables, made an awesome seating chart, and then it was totally ignored by 3/4 of the people there.</div>

  • Hey, so this whole time I've been proud of myself for not doing a seating chart, staying out of the seating chart drama... And here, my mom calls me a half hour ago saying "I know you're doing a buffet, but Sito (my grandmother) is INSISTING on sitting with certain people, and now that I think about it, we might need to do a seating chart, honey."

    .....................................COME ON!!!!!

  • Update:
We are having a buffet, and since PPs mentioned in Austin having a seating chart is out of the norm, considering it officially TOSSED! What a relief, nothing left to do now!

  • We didn't do one. We had 95 guests and had a sweetheart table with BM and MOH and then one table for my parents and siblings and one table for DH's parents and siblings. It worked out just fine.
