Advice on colors please!

Hello! I am June bride. Our date is set for June 29, 2013. The ceremony and reception is taking place in a lovely field along side a creek at my parents home. I was thinking of having our colors be pink, yellow,and orange, because I felt that they were more summery colors. My fiance is the picky one. He doesn't want to wear a white shirt. Instead, he wants to wear an orange dress shirt with his suit. Since the wedding is more on the simplier country side, I thought that the orange shirt with a tan colored suit would look cute, but he wants to wear a black suit. To me that is just too halloweenish and will throw everything else off. He wont wear a pink either.

I'm open to changing the colors.

Any advice on how to make this work? Any advice is welcome. Thanks

I went to a wedding this fall where the groom wore a khaki colored suit with an orange tie and boutinnere, but had on a white shirt, it looked really nice! I can definitely see your point about the Halloween vibe. I would try to compromise with him somehow! My FI is super picky about what he wants to wear also!

I'm also a June 29th bride! Maybe choose a different "summery" shade of orange so it doesn't look so Halloweenish!

Does he want a vibrant orange color? A lighter shade of orange wouldn't have such a halloween look. Is he against a yellow shirt? If he likes bright colors you could always work them in with his boutineer. Honestly, just talk w/ him about your concerns and how you'd envisioned the colors you picked working - colors really don't matter in the grand scheme, so maybe he's sticking his heels in about other things. Clearly he wants a say in the planning, I'd make sure he gets opportunities to put his mark on things.

The pink and yellow that we like are more on the brighter side. Would it look bad if they were bright and the orange was lighter? He doesn't really care about the rest of the planning, only what he wears. He want wear the yellow. Orange is pretty much it, unless we decide to change colors completely...But then there would probably be issues about those colors too lol. It's like when I ask what he thinks about this or that, he says, "I don't care." or "It doesn't matter to me." so then when I actually pick something out he says he doesn't like it or hints that he doesn't like it. It kind of bothers me a little. I don't know if maybe I talk about the wedding too much and that gets on his nerves? I'm just stressed about all of it I guess. Do ya'lls fiances act like that about planning?

I think bright colors could look nice with the light orange, but I'd go for more pops of color in smaller pieces/accessories, otherwise huge swaths of bright colors can get really overwhelming.

At the initial stages of planning, my FI also would say 'I don't care' when it came to some of the plans, but then would have opinions on random things. So (before I drove myself crazy lol) we sat down and went over what we both wanted in a wedding, made a list and picked out what was important to each us, and then we delegated tasks. There are some things that I'm doing solo (flowers, cake, dress, bm's) and then some we're doing together, and then others that are all him. That's really helped. I also explained to him that it hurt my feelings when he said 'I don't care' bc it comes across like he doesn't care about the wedding, when it's just that he doesn't care about red or yellow flowers.

Also, FI would get really overwhelmed when there were too many choices (like having to pick out what plate setting we were going to register for), so I started narrowing the choices down to 2-4 options. I'm not trying to be patronizing to FI, but keep in mind you may have been thinking of the details of your wedding for ages, but it's just starting to be a reality to your FI. There can be a lot of choices, and most of them he (and I) don't really care about, but if you really need his input on something, and he's not interested in planning, do the legwork and just give him a few choices to help you.

Ok. so he just told me that he wants blue, orange, and yellow. I am completely not a fan of that. I don't like the orange with the blue. partly because that was my high schools colors and this county is extremely small (2 redlights. No joke). I don't really care for the warmer tones and then BAM! Blue. lol. Pink and blue and yellow? Crap Idk. We are just in the extremely early stages of planning. So changing colors is nothing. Any ideas on pretty colors that would go with blue but still be summery and bright?

I'm sorry if I seem kinda spastic. I guess I somewhat am when it comes to this.
I feel like when I nicely tell him that I don't care for the idea, he retreats back into this shell and doesn't want to give imput for awhile.
...Planning this wedding is more work than I thought. I thought it was going to be fun and happy...not crazy and stressful.

Oof I totally hear ya on the school colors - ours were red, white & black and i can't help but see my hs lax uniforms everytime i see those color combos lol.

Dude, don't worry I don't think you're being spastic. You're in the initial planning stages and are getting some minor curve balls thrown at ya.

I highly highly suggest checking out The Perfect Palette (I think I rec'd it in another thread, but it's a REALLY helpful site) to help nail down your colors. Based on the new colors FI wants, here's a palette that is really rustic and pretty: click. My fiance and I decided on bright red and pool blue. The men are wearing grey suits and the ladies will be in the pool blue. Our flowers will be bright red gerber daisies. the ladies also may wear red high heels, not too sure yet. I do know that I will be in white and wearing red high heels though. That's all I have for now really.

Thank you so much for all your help. Those colors are very pretty together, but i don't think that go with the location we are having the ceremony and reception at. Imagine a massive cow pasture (minus the cows, lol we don't have those) with a creek seperating it from another massive open field. There are lots of trees on the banks of the creek but the actual field is treeless. Those colors reminded me of a beach wedding lol. We are def more on the country side. Both of our personalitys are bright and bubbly.

What do ya'll think about this? He wants orange, yellow, and blue. I want orange, yellow, and pink. I found this on Davids Bridal. It is all 4 colors. But would that be too many colors? How could I tie all colors in without lookin it lookin like a rainbow?

That sunbeam color is gorgeous!! It's a fantastic color for everybody

I love lots of color too (we're doing red/orange poppy with mint green, with yellow and blue accents). I think the key is trying not to have each color share equally - that's when it looks like a rainbow. Have some colors be the main attraction, but then have the others come in as supporting roles (ie sunbeam dresses with pink flowers with a blue ribbon tied around the stems).

Or did you mean having the wp wear the 4 different colors you mentioned? like each bm in a different dress?

i haven't really thought about that. I know the guys will most likely wear the orange or blue because my FI refuses to wear the pink and he probably wont wear the yellow either. My MOH and 2 of my BM's have red hair and they have all begged me to pick a color that would flatter them lol. another BM has brown hair and she's my sis so anythin is fine wth her. the other BM is 40ish and larger woman so I want a color that would flatter her and really each of the girls. All the same color for them is fine with me, although I would like for my MOH to be more distintive. I could do that with her flowers or something rather than her dress.

I'm a June 29th bride too!! How about the coral reef, pool, and canary colors from that david's bridal site? Thats very laid back country wedding to me. The groom could wear either the yellow or the blue, which would dress down a black suit and your girls could either wear the blue or the yellow. And then carry pink flowers such as peonies or sweet peas? I think it would be super pretty. I want pink really bad but my fiance hates pink so no such luck for me.
