Invitation update (for those who care) :)

Turns out my invitation lady is on vacation (annoying and perfect timing, right?).

She was super pissed off that they shorted me on belly bands, she ordered 175 of them but the company she ordered them from only sent 75. She put in a rush order for the extra ones that I should have within a few days.

My actual invites and pocketfolds were shipped yesterday - I have the tracking number, and they are set to arrive tomorrow.

I have 62 envelopes addressed already (out of 141) so have made a good dent in them!  My fiance is out of town until Saturday night and I plan to have all the addressing finished by the time he gets home, so on Sunday, we can spend the day gluing and assembling and numbering RSVP cards.

THEY INVITES HAD BETTER BE FREAKIN' GORGEOUS AFTER ALL THIS TIME AND ANXIETY!!!

Oh, and she tried to suck up to me by telling me these were her favorite invitation set she had ever done and that I WAS HER FAVORITE CUSTOMER EVER. give me a break, I am still planning to rip you a new one on the internets.

I know some of you mentioned using specific glues, double sided tape, etc. yesterday - what do you think would be best for layering backing on linen cardstock??

I still haven't decided what to do about the insert card for the other hotel blocks, though :(

I'm so glad to hear the invitations are on their way! I have no idea w/r/t the glue. lol

And wtf -- vacation? I will never understand people who take vacation when they are in the middle of obligations. Maybe it's just the way my mind/my life works, but if you have something work-related come up, you have to cancel plans. It's as simple as that. She knew she wasn't finished with the invitations (and whoever knows how many others) - why would she just "take a break"? I hate people sometimes.

  • Well I'm glad she isn't being a royal b*tch about everything, and is at least trying to fix some of her screw-ups. Although her sucking up is SO annoying. I would be so tempted to write her a nasty email back right then and there. But I guess that would make me a royal b*tch too haha. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on out!

Oh, and since when does TK not allow you to swear in a post?? I tried submitting this without the little * and it said no! I have totally seen people swear on here before.

  • She should have given you a heads up that she would be on vacation. I'm glad to know that the rest of the belly bands will be sent to you.  I think it's ok to send the invitations you'll have done before your vacation and the rest when you return if you don't get all the materials by mid next week. I sent mine in waves because I was waiting on address/relationship info from certain guests.

haha I love that she tried to suck up to you. She knows what's coming to her!  You've made great progress!

I mentioned double sided tape because I used it for other invitation purposes and it works great. I have never used the glue others mentioned. I think tape would be less messy, but the diy invitation girls probably know what they are talking about.

What does your gut say about the insert? I'd have to re-read your post to remember what the options are.
  • I'm glad to hear a rush order was put in for the rest of the belly bands. It sounds like everything will work out after all! Yay!

  • I re-read your post about the inserts. I think you should add the extra insert but also keep the original (unless you already have a ton of inserts, in this case perhaps you should create an entire new one with all of the hotels listed).  Some guests may prefer one hotel over another, regardless of price and some guests may want to be at the same hotel as their friends and family who have already secured a room with your room block. It's good to give all options I think.

  • I'm so glad your invitations are in the mail.  Why wouldn't she have at least mentioned something about going away to you with all the emails back and forth!

My invites came with "glue dots" they are those things that the kohl's coupons come stuck on to the ad's.  If you get those you know what I mean.  They were really easy and not messy at all.  Definitely get an assembly line going like you put all the tape on the back of the invite then FI mats them, it will go faster probably that way.  Put one on each corner and you are all set :).

Here's a link to them at AC Moore.  http://www.acmoore.com/p-50442-glue-dots-12-removable-dots-200-clear-dotsroll.aspx

  • Hi!
glad everything is finally coming together for you! For my pocket fold invites I used the Scotch Advanced Tape Glider. It's rediculously large lol but it's REALLY good and the tape holds really well!
    Hope this helps!

  • arunkumar - that is what my gut was saying - to keep the original insert, but add a new one explaining that the first two hotel blocks are nearly full and that other options have been arranged. Thank you for your input!!

michelle - those glue dots look really interesting!! I am really torn on glue dots vs. tape. I don't think regular old glue would be a good option for non-crafty fiance and I.

Allison what is the advanced glider?? if it is easy to work with I am definitely interested, haha!

oh and ceglare -  usually I add an extra ii when saying b**ch, but the knot wouldn't let me do that today!!!! it said "Please edit or remove the following word, then resubmit your content: b ii tch". SO WEIRD
  • Butterfly I woudl suggest the glue dots.  They are not messy and very easy to work with you can find them at any craft store.  Tape can get annoying at least I think so.

I used the glue dots to put together my invites as well and it was easy peasy :)
  • Zip Dry Paper Glue (clicky)

It holds incredibly well and a little bit goes a long way.  It shouldn't wrinkle the linen cardstock but always check anything you use before you start doing them in mass quantities.

  • Ugh...I'm pissed at your invitation lady for you.  Couldn't she have let you known she was going on vacation?  Doesn't she understand the wedding invitation TIMELINE???

As far as glue, when I'm scrapbooking, I layer cardstock using tombow mono adhesive (the permanent kind).  It sticks really well, and you can buy it at craft stores with coupons.

  • Glad to hear there is progress! Did she have any explanation for why she didn't assemble the invites herself?

[QUOTE]Glad to hear there is progress! Did she have any explanation for why she didn't assemble the invites herself?

Nope! that part of my email was what she ignored. I was even really nice about it and asked for her tips/suggestions as an expert on how to assemble everything. No response to that part.

Which is why I am relying on the advice of my knotties (which has been awesome). I have more options for gluing than I even know what to do with!!
  • Is there an Archivers store near where you live?  If you go in they will be able to direct you to the product that will work best for what you are doing and for your skill level!  There are TONS of adhesive options!  I used TombowMono Adhesive tape runner to put mine together but its my favorite for scrapbooking so I always use it.  Tape or Dot Runners would be the easiest thing for you to you I would think and they are fast and work really well.  If you go that route get permanent for sure.  Here are a couple links...

This one is totally clear (great if you have any vellum):  https://tombowusa.com/craft/detail/62125

This one is a dot runner and still permanent:  https://tombowusa.com/craft/detail/62145

Glad you got some of the stuff worked out.  Thats very annoying that she didnt let you know about the vacation thing.  I hope you get it all figured out.  Nice work on the addresses!  Thats awesome!  Hope my adhesive info is helpful...you can buy it a Michaels and its frequently on sale.  They are refillable too so just buy 1 or 2 runners and then a couple things of refills if you decide to use the Tombow.

  • ajmom - you are speaking a totally new language to me hahahaha!! I believe we do have an Archiver's store, that is great advice! The adhesive tape runner definitely sounds promising....I will check those options out!
  • Lol!  Sorry!  Definitely head into Archivers if you can.  The ladies are always so helpful and nice (at least here and in Minnesota).

  • Well, at least you know she was not the one shorting you on the belly bands!
And It sounds like things are coming together- you will get it all done on time!

as for glue, I think you have plenty of good options to consider. You better show us some pics when its all said and done.

That part about you being her favorite customer is total BULL! Wasn't she getting all pissy with you a few weeks ago because you complained about something??? What crap! She's not even my invite lady and I feel insulted by that comment haha! Like you would suddenly forget all of that! Pshh!

I used the zip dry glue K888 suggested. I haven't had any problems so far.
  • I really hope they're what you are hoping for!!!! <3  You're my favorite customer my butthole! bahahaha...ohh I need to read your review on her!! teeehee!
