Table numbers and escort cards

I feel really stupid...I am just not sure how this all works (I have not been to very many weddings). So there will be assigned seating at the reception. Do I put place cards with guest names at the table and then a sign telling people what table they are at?
What works best? any ideas?

    There are several ways you can do it. You can do what you said above if you want to assign actual seats. If you just want to assign people to a table, then you can either make a chart with people's names and their table number, or you can create place cards with their name and table number and display them during the cocktail hour so people can pick them up. You might want to go on Pinterest and search for seating chart to see all the different options.

    Also, if you're not too creative, check out Etsy, there are some great designers on there that will make you beautiful seating charts/escort cards/table numbers for great prices!
