Holy Crap! flowers are expensive!

We went to the florist today that I had found online and loved their portfolio.  Flowers are ridiculously expensive.  People, they're going to die!

Any who... we went in with some ideas of things that might work and realized quickly that they wouldn't actually work that well.  But the florist had great ideas for us and I really like what we came up with.

I think we might go with them because I just love what they came up with for us.  They were slightly over our budget, but not too much over.

  • This is my biggest reason for going with fake flowers. We are keeping it very simple. My girls will have two gerber daisies and Ill have four. No boutaineers. I just cant see spending so much money on things that will die. Id rather put that towards a photographer.

  • This why I want fake flowers but fmil insisting I go with real
  • Haven't met with the baker yet- that's in two weeks.  I had her price out all sorts of flowers for similar arrangments, and the type of flowers barely effected the price, which was interesting.  We're doing orchid arrangments for the reception, arrangements of ferns, irish bells, and two tyes of pink flowers (I can't remember the name, but they were long like the irish bells) for the ceremony arrangements, and pink rose petals lining the isle.  We're not doing boutineres, but we are having some small things for the cocktail tables and some arrangments for the bathrooms in vases I already own.

  • Oh ya and the garlands for the HIndu ceremony.  In a Hindu ceremony you each put a lei-like flower necklace on each other.

  • My friend just got her quote from a florist in Philly and she almost had a heart attack. I'm so glad my reception hall provides the centerpieces bc that cuts out a huge cost. I'm still doing bouquets, but my FI doesn't want boutonnieres, so that helps. I want to do something for the ceremony space (front area and/or aisle markers), but it's going to be totally cost dependent. I love flowers, but the cost is crazy!

  • Melb: That's alot of flowers!!! I am sure they will be gorgeous. I thought about doing fake flowers but our venue includes the flower price with the venue price I think I am more afraid of my bouquets and boutonnieres I feel in love with one I seen online and it was $725!!!! I was thinking those flowers better live for 2 months after the wedding!!!!  lol

  • I am struggling with what do with my ceremony space. We are doing an all in one venue. Our ceremony space is sectioned off from the reception space and then during cocktail hour they are opening it all up. Our venue includes flower centerpieces for reception but I am not using them. I dont want to do to much in the ceremony space because it literally will be about 20 minutes we are in there.

Any ideas? I have some I like on my pinterest but not sure. lol

  • Omg that's so much!  How many bouquets and boutonnieres is included in that price?  Thank god I'm only having one bridesmaid, so only two bouquets.

  • That's my biggest reason for going with fake flowers too, plus I'm just not a big flower person in general.

I'm using fake flowers made from birchwood shavings, they're freaking gorgeous. I already got my bouquet made and the seller only charged me $60- and that included shipping and insurance. I have pics of them in my planning bio :-) I'm also ordering a ton of loose flowers to make my centerpieces with.

This is the site I got them from, she used to be on Etsy <clicky>

If anyone's interested, I have a coupon that I can forward to you and I earn credit too :-)

  • mymissingpuzzle: I could see the $4,000 happening...  crazy, right?  Our quote was $2500, which is ridiculous to me, since half the tables won't even have flowers (we bought lamps at a quarter of the price per flower centerpiece) We're in the same position as you with the ceremony space.  We're getting three large arrangments for the ceremony, but we're reusing them in the reception space.

OMG, $4000?!?! That's insane! I got quoted $1200 and that was for my bouquet, an anniversary dance bouquet, BM bouquets (2), FI/GM bouts (total of 4), dad bouts (2), grandmother's corsages (2), mother corsages (2), ceremony pomanders (6 I think?...which we decided not to do b/c I don't really like the pomanders anymore), 6 centerpieces consisting of 3 pillar vases, the tallest having a submerged orchid, the middle one having hydrangeas, the the smallest having a floating rose, as well as some rose petals for the aisle I think. And the flower types in my proposal (which I should add is not finalized, I can change anything up until 2 weeks before the wedding...so the price may fluctuate a bit) were orchids, hydrangeas, tulips, roses, freesia and carnations. There were probably more but I can't recall what they were...but most of those flowers are on the expensive side, so I was pleasantly surprised with my quote and booked them the next day. I didn't even bother meeting with other florists. =)
  • Yea... And that was for the least expensive option. The most expensive option was 6,000. We are going to cut a bunch of stuff and see if we can get it down to under 2000.
