Limos/Taxis

I noticed some people are having a limo pick them up from the airport? and also to take them to and from the liquor store.  is there a reason for this or will a taxi do the same job? are taxis easy enough to flag down on the street?

<div>Only on Las Vegas Blvd.  If you take a taxi to go to the liquor store or any other errands off the Strip, you'll have to ask them to wait.  Or you'll be stuck calling for a return trip.</div>

If you want to run errands, many times a limo is a better option since it will be a fixed rate per half hour so at least you know what you're getting into.  A taxi from the airport already has a surcharge, if you want to run errands too and then get to your hotel it could easily be $50 to $75 depending on which hotel.  Or hell, just rent a car and you'll probably come out ahead.  Budget Rental Car, even after tax, has weekly rates in the $90 range for a compact, so that versus $25 to your hotel, $25 to the airport, $30 to run errands and you've already broken even but now you've got a car to go anywhere else you need to during your trip and you can come and go when you want.

Also worth noting that you can't "flag down" a taxi anywhere on the Strip-- they're only allowed to stop at casino pickup spots, etc.

The waiting time per hour for most taxis is around $30 on top of the fare.  Also, worth noting, I read an article the other day about taxi cab drivers inflating fares from the airport to the Strip by taking the airport tunnel instead of surface streets.  If you are staying at the South end of the Strip, always make sure that the driver takes Tropicana Ave.  The tunnel is the round about way and will add an extra $15-$20 to your fare.

</div><div>Yeah, I specifically listed that tidbit of info on my wedding website too because my entire side of the family comes from NY, and I can just foresee them trying to hail a cab on the Strip, NYC-style, haha.

Cabbies are NOT nice here and act like they don't know where they're going to scam you out of money. We went out one night and thought we would just take a cab from downtown to a strip club and it was aweful. Once we were ready to leave we had to wait on the cabbie to be done with his lap dance, I had to remind him to turn on his head lights, and I had to literally scream at him to exit the highway downtown before he "accidentally" drove us to summerlin. Also, they are always on the verge of getting in accidents on the strip. Terrible.

I'd suggest renting a car or having a car service for transportation.

I am not sure about the not nice comment as I am sure they are nice people in general but cabbies in just about any tourist city around the world try the scam. And since most cabbies are usually immigrants a lot do not know the city the live in. When catching a cab in Melbourne we normally have to explain where to go. Although most cabs here normally have a gps- is this not standard in the US?

They don't have GPS. And immigrant or not, if you don't know these not so complicated streets then you shouldn't be a cab driver. But this is an ongoing battle in las Vegas...there's some dirty illegal underground alliance between these cab companies and the taxi cab authority (they're the ones that are supposed to fine the cab drivers for taking you out of your way). It's on the news from time to time.

I agree with all notes about taxis...  On a side note, depending on where you are staying there is a liquor store behind the Flamingo/Bills that is within walking distance of the strip.  They were really nice and helpful for us too.
