Help! With DOC

So, my wedding is next saturday and I had NO clue I needed a DOC. They are NOT in my budget, but I have no idea what to do. I need someone to help cue the music people when the parties are walking in. I'm stressing hard core because I don't want something screwed up! Any help, comments, ANYTHING would be so appreciated. Thank you!!!!

Re: Help! With DOC

  • I am not having one. I thought about it for a minute and decided its not in my budget and unnecessary. There will be staff at your locations that will help make sure everything goes as planned. If your are worried about vendors having issues ask a trusted family member to be your main point of contact day of. I am sure one would be able to help out if unfortunately there is a snafu.  If it is not in your budget don't get one. I have been to many wonderful weddings that did not have a DOC.

  • I agree with hjewell29.........it's too late, and I'm sure you can appoint someone (aunt, sister, friend, family member) who would love to take the stress out of your day. There shouldn't be any major snafus if you have hired reputable vendors, but it will give you peace of mind.
  • I had a friend do it for me, but I agree that you don't need one. In your case, can a friend of yours serve in the role of music cuer? Honestly, there has to be a way that your music people can get the hint to start things up. Maybe they can just watch for the first WP couple to be standing at the entrance or something?

  • I actually disagree with the prior post, I didn't think I needed one but changed my mind a couple months before my wedding. I absolutely think a DOC is worth it and in my case was needed. Unless you are willing to take on any of the possible issues and stress on your big day. However, it also depends on your wedding factors, like size, staff of vendors, what you are contributing to decorations, etc. I just know that I didn't do almost any DIY (I supplied some decorations to the hall that were delivered the night before and set up by my DOC) but all other stuff was done by vendors (my hall set up tables and linens, flowers and decorations by the florist/design company). My DOC did the ceremony coordination and took care of the issues that happened at setup (Several factors that would have probably ruined my day if I knew about them). I hired her ahead of time but it was only a few hundred and if you really think you want one, call around and see how flexible they will be with pricing and if they are even available. I used Shelly from Simplicitydoc.com. Goodluck! You could even post on the local board to see if any local knotties could help, if you trust them. There are lots of gals on here that like me, already went through it and have expirienced....

Not trying to sway you one way or another, but to help you to think about who you might be able to ask... I have a former collegue that is going to be my DOC. I didn't want to have to ask a family member or friend to do this on the day of, as I want the invited guests to concentrate on having fun. If my current DOC wouldn't have been available, I would have asked my coworker... She and I talk about weddings allllllll the time, and she is very organized and planned her own wedding 2 years ago, so she knows what is going on. Is there anyone you work with, past or present, that you weren't planning on inviting to the wedding but would be able to make this amazing contribution, for cheap or free? Just a thought -- good luck!

...On a positive note, it looks like you will have AMAZING weather next weekend! So at least there's that...
