AW: DIY hair/makeup/jewelry trial!

I'm actually getting my hair professionally done, but I wanted to see how simple rolls around my face would look, so I gave it a shot today.  I moosed the front of my hair, rolled three curls around my face, and secured with bobby pins.  I braided the rest of my hair and rolled it up and tucked it up under itself.  I added my hair piece, put on my jewelry, did my makeup the best I could.

It's neat to see it all put together.  It's my birthday, so I'm letting myself wear it for an hour before I take it all off :P

Any makeup advice?  I feel like in person I look like I have a lot of makeup on, bu then in photos, you can hardly see it.  Grrr.  My face looks plain to me.  Maybe this is ok during the day but I might add some darker shadow or a "smokey eye" or something for night.

Or maybe a darker lip for the night?

Happy Birthday! My hair will be professionally done for free because my fiance's stepmother is a hairdresser (so is mine, but she hasn't offered) and I'm DIYing my makeup. I kinda feel the same way - it feels like it's a lot since I don't wear makeup but will probably look light the in pictures. I liked it all though and think the darker lipstick will look great with all the purple in your wedding. The close up with the dark lipstick looks awesome -  maybe it just needs a little more blush? As much as I hate false eyelashes (lots of experience with them through dance performances), I do think that something like that is needed for a little pop with the eyes. I probably won't wear them because my morning is at 10 am but for an evening wedding it will accentuate your eyes nicely.

ledalia--I've got falsies on in those photos there, but I didn't think they were any good, so I put on different ones for going out tonight (for my bday) and thought these look much better.  The ones I had on in those photos were not thick, but they went across the whole lid.  The ones I have on now cover only half the lid, but are quite thick, and look much better.  (I have an afternoon wedding, though, and an evening reception).  I'm hoping the "half lid"ness of the falsies will keep them hidden better in pictures, but the full lash will give me that eye pop that I need.

    Thanks for the advice, girls!

    I love your hair =)

I've vote for a red lip. But then, that's what I did. =) I agree it needs a little more "pop"

    Enjoy your bithday!

  • love the hair, a makeup suggestion on the lip what about a reddish/berry color, it will add a bit of light and life to the face, On my monitor the darker lip color is very greyish mauve and I'd love to see you with something a bit brighter but classic. maybe a lipstain in something like this

  • Your hair looks awesome! Love the flower. I agree, the darker lip color looks really nice.  Happy birthday!

  • Great job with the hair. You can really pull off that look! IMO you need the darker makeup. It makes all the difference in world in photos. I feel like a tramp with heavy makeup but it looks much better in photos.

Thanks a lot ladies!  Ok, heavier makeup, and that gorgeous berry coloured lip.  I'll give it a shot!  Thanks!

I think I'm going to go to MAC and get my makeup done there and try on some different lip colours.

  • you have such nice eyebrows!lol

i think you need more color.. i definitely like the paler lip better.. but add some pinkish gloss. i'd try darkening the outer corners of the top lid & lining the lower inner lid to bring out the eye color & some blush on the cheek bones
  • PS if you use a lighter for like 2 seconds on your eyeliner pencil it will go on and stay on better & will be a little darker.
  • I LOVE your hair!! You're so pretty! Can you rock a red lip? Look into some of the super lasting colors, in reds. Red is a classic, vintage color- and if you find the right one, I think it could be amazing!

right, I'll wear MORE makeup definitely!  heavier foundation, more blush, and a berry lip.

I'm looking into a few different shades of berry lipstick right now.  Thanks for all the advice, everyone!  (and cellarius--cool makeup tip!  But i use liquid)

re: the eyebrows.  I work really hard on them, because I think they're so important!  I should be just as diligent with all aspects of my makeup I suppose.
