So, my anniversary and then all the holidays are coming up (I'm a nine days after Christmas baby), so this has been on my mind for a couple of days. I'm a huge wishlist person. I have a big one on amazon and favorites on etsy/sephora/lush, plus I tend to point out things in stores all the time. I like it when other people do the same for me. FI does not have lists, he just tends to get himself the things he wants. My Mom and Dad always ask for a list every year, so I got used to it. Plus I do explain to FI that the list is ever-evolving, things for gifts, but also things I buy for myself, it's not a buy everything at once venture.
Our disconnect comes when I send him links or show him things that I like and say "I really like that, or something really similar" and he comes up with something that's just far enough off to make me kind of WTF (i.e. buying a purse that is nothing like anything I use because I asked for a new purse, and a bag is a bag). We're starting our lists this year, he feels like it takes the surprise away, but I'd rather have the things that we want/can use than randomness (like lotion that gives me hives or a hat for him). Plus, when you're keeping a list of a lot of things, you never know what you might get anyway.
Do you guys do lists or complete surprises? Do you keep written lists or do the internet thing? Just curious, as it seems like Christmas shopping gets earlier every year.
