I am so relieved!

I just got off the phone with my priest. I gave him all the details of our situation. He said the annulment lady is confused, because based on the circumstances, my boyfriend can do the short non canonical annulment just like I can! He's going to meet with us on Tuesday night to go over everything, but he told me not to worry, everything will be fine.

Phew! That was really upsetting me, having to make that choice.

and this is why lay persons have no business guiding couples through the wedding process!  glad it worked out.

Tell me about it! She is a very nice lady, but I guess maybe I should suggest she undergo some additional training? She had me all sorts of freaked out.

there isnt much you can do, but i hope that you did tell the priest exactly what she said.  he should speak to her and tell her not to give out such advice.

I'm glad everything worked out for you!

I hope everything goes well with your fertility issues, too.  I'm sorry you're having so much trouble, but at least you know about it now and not when you and your future H are trying to conceive. :) Knowing now should speed up the process later, hopefully.

    Good luck with everything!

Thank you. I've already started charting my cycle, and I ovulated this month (whoo-hoo!). But that's not a guarantee, since my endometriosis along could keep conception from happening. I have a GYN appt tomorrow to discuss our options, I will probably need surgery to clear everything out.

Your dress story was funny! But I'm really sorry you had issues with the food at your reception, that's unacceptable what they did.

charting is a fountain of knowledge....a shame more dont do it if for nothing else than overall gynecological health.

Yes, it is. I wish I had done it sooner. It's really amazing the way our bodies work. TCOYF is a great resource.

Splitting this into two threads is confusing.

Happy for you, and hope it all works out.  Something I don't understand though - why doesn't he have to go through the annulment process if it was two non-Catholics getting married?

    Welcome!

Hooray!!!!  I'm glad that will help alleviate the stress of that process for you and that your priest helped to clarify it.

A good friend of mine who has very severe endometriosis underwent several surgeries at Pope Paul VI Institute at Creighton to repair it after evaluation and referral from her NFP physician.  Best wishes and prayers for you as you deal with that!

Definitely agree that charting is awesome...

I don't understand either...my husband & I were not Catholic and not even married in a church, and I've had to go thru the long form. Honestly, we've actually had better info talking to the Tribunals - they do annulments all the time - than with the priests. One time we asked three priests the same question & got three different answers. I don't want to rain on your parade, but I'd confirm this with someone in the Tribunal - an advocate or one of the judges or someone, if you don't trust the lady you spoke with- to verify. I truly, truly, truly hope it works out for you... Linda

Thanks everyone. I clarified everything very clearly with my priest - explained that neither my boyfriend nor his ex were Catholic, he is baptized methodist, and he still confirmed that he can do the short form annulment.

As someone who works with marriage prep, this is impossible. Unless there is some detail being missed that you isn't known or being discussed here, The Catholic church views all marriages, including non-baptized, as valid until proven otherwise.

You'll want to double check this with the tribunal.

This doesn't answer why - and this is what my best friend's priest told her - so she booked venues etc for her wedding.  Then it came back from the diocese that she had to do the long annulment, and she didn't find out for sure if the annulment went through until 6 weeks before the wedding.  It was very stressful for her.

I am doing the short form because I was a Catholic, who married a non-Catholic, outside the church, and without getting permission.  Mine was an invalid marriage - my friend's was valid.

    I would make sure.

I will find out more when we meet on Tuesday, but I really made everything completely clear to the priest, so I don't know. I'm really hoping he's not wrong.
