aisle runner?

it seems that most people think they woudl do more harm than good. the problem is that my wedding ceremony will be outside in early may. im worried about dragging my dress around on the wet (i know it will be wet) ground.
im not too concerned with tripping on it since i'm wearing kitten heels.

did anyone use one? or have any comments or feedback?

We're not using one for our outdoor venue.  The wedding coordinator at the site says that they blow around and become a pain to deal with, so we're just going to take our chances with the ground.

We are having an indoor ceremony.  I had planned on using an aisle runner but our venue does not allow them.

Is it grass you'll be walking on, or something solid?  If it's grass, my thought is purchasing stakes (wire ones, like you'd use for camping) and securing the runner every couple of feet or so.  Since they're wire they won't be terribly obvious, though you could also paint them in your wedding colors or to match the ground or something.  Everyone would then be walking on the aisle runner, but your dress would stay clean, and because it's secured it shouldn't get messed up by anyone else walking on it either.
