Getting in Shape

i did it!!! my first half marathon :)

i am addicted! finished in 1:57 minutes.. was holding in throw up for about 6 miles... which proceeded to come out after finishing . think i drank too much gatorade which i never drink... so i proved that like many runners say... never try anything new during the race,,
either way i did it !! i am officiallly a "runner".
cant wait to do another race ! maybe a full marathon next year!????
running has helped me drop weight too!!! love it! :)
2 more pounds to lose and i will go try on wedding dresses!

going to do a few more halfs in between and try to improve the time!!! think i can cut i down to 8 minute miles as i can get that easy when i run 7-8 miles.. just need to train harder

The marathon distance and greater is the only race my medical team will not allow.  I'm allowed to do 13.1 mile races and training runs of 15 miles. I've run everything from 5k to half marathon though. I've done triathlon, and distance cycling as well. Are you doing speed work? What about temp runs? Hill repeats? More running will make you faster, but you're already running pretty quick. I run about a 1:55 half right now on my own. Things dont always line up for me race day. I'll be running a few halfs next spring to make that official. Right now I'm focusing on the half ironman for charity.

<div>Congrats on that time. That really is impressive for a first half. I'm about to do my second, and if I can get a time like that, it would be quite a happy day for me.</div><div>As far as the nausea, just like you "train in" the speed, you have to "train in" the Gatorade; try it with shorter runs, cut it with water if you need to, slowly increase.</div><div>However, you might find it's just not the right fuel for you. Personally I can't drink the shiit in races. I can, however, handle GU gels, which taste godawful but I feel they do the trick for me in terms of replenishing that Gatorade does. One every 35/40 minutes for any run over an hour. I haven't tried it, but I've also read that coconut water works just as well as Gatorade, so there's another option.</div><div>Good luck!</div>
