Movies and Books

(This is sort of stolen from SB)

Have you read any good books lately?

Have you seen any good movies lately?

Are there any movies out now or coming out soon that you want to see?

Re: Movies and Books

  • Have you read any good books lately?
No. I started reading The Boy in the Suitcase a while ago but I didn't finish it and I haven't picked it back up lately.

Have you seen any good movies lately?
I saw Taken 2 and I didn't care much for it. I mean, it was entertaining but it was exactly like the first one except not nearly as good.

Are there any movies out now or coming out soon that you want to see?
I'm seeing Alex Cross tonight and Paranormal Activity 4 on Thursday. I'm dying to see Argo and Looper. I'll probably see Sinister when it comes to Netflix/RedBox.

I haven't read anything good in what feels like awhile. One of the last books I listened to was the Irresistible Henry House by Lisa Grunwald. It had elements I love in a book, like the entire story takes place in a time I have never experienced. But the characters were pretty flat.

I just watched Snow White and the Huntsman. It was entertaining. My favorite movie I've seen recently was Hit and Run.

I'd like to rent The Perks of Being a Wallflower when that is rentable.
  • I am on the 4th book of the Game of Thrones series, it's really good, I'm half way through that one. I began reading Game of Thrones back in June I think. I'm always up for suggestions on good books to read for my kindle.

In my netflix queue I have coming today the cinemax series The Borgias, I got the first dvd and it was pretty good. I haven't seen any other real good movies lately either.
A week or two ago I watched the movie War Horse. It was a good story but as an animal lover it was way too emotional for me. There were several times where I was ugly crying and a complete basket case while watching it. Luckily BF wasn't home from work yet to witness that.

I'm reading The Casual Vacancy... still. Work has been so crazy, I just haven't had the time to read much. I'll probably finish it this week, though.

I also bought the audiobook for Gone Girl and started that yesterday when I had to drive for a couple hours. I like it so far.

Edit: my computer cut me off before I could finish my post. I really want to see Argo and Pitch Perfect. I want to see Looper, too, but for some reason I feel like I'll probably wait for Redbox on that.
  • I just finished reading "Defending Jacob", which my mom recommended to me. It was GREAT, and I think it's being made into a movie. Seriously, read it.

Have you read any good books lately? I just read "The Tipping Point" by Malcom Gladwell it was pretty interesting it talks about how social phenomena happen and uses some pretty interesting examples (ie: syphilis in Baltimore). I'll probably start reading the Game of Thrones series next.

Have you seen any good movies lately? Nope, I think next Friday SO and I are going to have a date night and rent Dark Shadows.

Are there any movies out now or coming out soon that you want to see? Paranormal Activity 4

  • I forgot to answer the last question. I'd like to see Argo, and Sinister, but we probably won't have time to catch them in the theater, so I'll add them to my netflix queue. I'll probably do the same to paranormal activity 4.

I probably couldn't watch War Horse. We started watching Water for Elephants and I was ugly crying as well and we were only watching the movie for 1/2 hour or so lol.

mmmm hmmmm. That's pretty much the only reason Looper is even on my radar.
  • Have you read any good books lately?
Yes. I have been re-reading ASOIAF series for the past few months, I am on book 4 (Danser and I are book twins!). I keep taking breaks from reading the series to read other books. I just read Ella Enchanted. It was a short and easy read, but pretty cute.

Have you seen any good movies lately?
Not really. I have been watching season 4 of TrueBlood which is pretty good so far. Dead to the World (the Sookie Stackhouse book that season 4 is based on) was one of my favorites in the series. But the book and show are way different.

Are there any movies out now or coming out soon that you want to see?
Seven Psychopaths looks funny. I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower ages ago so it would be nice to see the movie version. But truthfully, I hardly ever go to the movies. FI and I go like 2-3 times a year. I think the only movie we saw in theaters this year has been The Hunger Games.

It is really weird to me how big Alex Cross/James Patterson has become. About 12-13 years ago I read about 5-6 of his novels. Including the first 3-4 Alex Cross novels and When the Wind Blows (which became the inspiration for the Maximum Ride series). Then I sort of lost interest and moved on to other stuff. It just is crazy to me that there are now 20 Alex Cross novels and 8 Maximum Ride novels. Plus a ton of movies!

Have you read any of the books? I really recommend When the Wind Blows. I loved it (and am adding it to my "to read" list).

I've read up through Double Cross in the Alex Cross series. I think the movie coming out is based on Cross which I don't really remember (maybe I will when I watch it though). I read them all really quickly and one after another so they kind of started to all blend into each other for me. I'll have to check out When the Wind Blows!

I just finished reading Something Blue. It was weird reading it after seeing Something Borrowed, because I really can't imagine this actually happening. Does anyone know if they are making a movie out of it?

Paranormal Activity 4. But there's no way I could see that in a movie theatre. We'll have to rent it after it comes out on video.

I've been a huge James Patterson fan for years. I love love love the Alex Cross books, and Maximum Ride series just makes me happy.

I've read 90% of his books, and am dying to see Alex Cross - I'm not sure how I feel about Tyler Perry playing Alex Cross, since he is soooooo different from who I had pegged in my head. I pictured Alex & Sweets(that was his partner...right?? Sh*t...I need to reread) as like Michael duncan esque type guys.

Ummm... I just read Sojourner. It's a YA book. It was....interesting I guess. About angels and death, and reincarnation type sh*t.... it was a bit on the fantasy side.. but it was okay.

Last movie I watched was Avengers in 3d :)

I have no time to think about leaving my house to go see movies, but I think I should have HG in my mailbox tonight from Netflix...
  • Yay for being book twin Heather! I keep saying I want to take a break read something else but I'm really into them!

Gah, it's been forever since I actually reaad the books lol. I can't believe I forgot his name was samson!

I could get behind Denzel playing Alex. Tyler Perry as Alex just....doesn't compute.

Samson was always described as a big guy- so Lawrence Fishburne - michael duncan types just seem to fit better.
  • Have you read any good books lately?

Yes! I just finished Beauty by Robin Mckinley and I loved it! It's a great fractured fairytale and love story. I highly recommend it.

Have you seen any good movies lately?

The Dark Knight Rises. But I think everyone has seen it now

Are there any movies out now or coming out soon that you want to see?

The Hobbit. There are a few others but I don't know their names right now.
