destination wedding/planning a reception at home

We just got married Oct 29th, 2010 in Mexico with 33 people attending. We are having a reception back home in January. I am having a hard time deciding what kind of theme and color to have. We each only had 1 person stand up and we didn't have a specific color. Since the reception is in January do I go with a winter theme, or since we were married in Mexico do I go with a more tropical/Caribbean theme? I am torn on this. We will be serving cocktails and Hors d' oeuvres at the reception. Any advice or ideas???

    I say go with whatever theme you like!  Not much help, I know LOL!

    Seriously though, since it is a wintertime reception, why not go with a "south of the border" theme?  It will be bright and cheery, and a nice change from all the snow and cold that by then everyone is already sick of (I lived in N Idaho for 9 yrs.).  Serve some Mexican-inspired dishes/appetizers and blend some margaritas, and have a fiesta!
