vendor reviews from my 9/11/11 wedding! (UPDATE: Negative review added below -Simply Elegant Linens)

Hi ladies! I just got back from my honeymoon, so I thought I would take a few minutes to write up some recviews of my vendors:

Church: St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox church (Lexington) - we had a greek wedding, as I converted to Orthodix, as my husband is greek. This church is small, an beautiful. My family, who is not greek, GOSHED about how beautiful the ceremony was and how beautiful the church was...

Nashawtuc Country Club - our reception venue, was beautiful, and very reasonably priced for a country club. This is located in Concord, Ma. The food was TO DIE FOR. Everyone kept talking about how good the food was, and our DOC did a fantastic job at moving things along, without us feeling rushed.

DJ - Nick Diamond - He was great, and such a nice guy. He had everyone up and dancing! He also does a lot of greek events, so he knows which greek music to throw in here and there for the older folks to enjoy, though mostly, he stuck to my playlist.

Montilios (Cake) -  Brockton, Ma - Our cake was gorgeous, and DELICIOUS! we had a coconut cake with pinapple filling, it was so good, and very different! everyone loved it!

Simply Elegant Linens - Gina did a fabulous job on the table linens and chair covers. I had a bit of stress with dealing with her through the planning process, because she is not the easiest person to get ahold of...but she did get the job done, thankfully. Her prices were also very reasonable. **See Below post for an updated review- Do NOT use Simply Elegant!**

Judy's Village Flowers - Foxboro, Ma - Judy is incredible! she is such a sweetheart, and she brought my visions totally to life! she even made me a second bridal bouquet, just because! I hadn't asked for it, and she did make me the one I wanted, and it was gorgeous...but she did surprise me with a second one, just incase I wanted to take pictures with both! Everything was utterly perfect!

Robin's Limo Service - Taunton, ma - HUGE 20 person Escalade, which was AWESOME! The driver was also really great, and exactly on time. There was also 2 bottles of champagne inside, and he had the red carpet. Felt like a queen!

Scott Poole (wedding piano.com) Boston, ma - Scott did a wonderful job playing at the church. I did get to hear his playing when I came down the aisle, and also rewatching our wedding video. The music was beautiful, and fit the day perfectly!

CJ the piano man - Boston, Ma - was our cocktail pianist at Nashawtuc during the cocktail hour...we got to hear him play at our venue tasting, and we knew we had to have him play at our cocktail reception! it created the perfect atmosphere in the room, and all our guests really enjoyed it.

Adriano Batti - Photoghrapher, Medford, Ma - Adriano is a genius...his pictures aren't just pictures, they are Art! He is super fast too, he had our photos up online by like 5am the next morning! He captured some of the most tendor moments, and incredible candids...some of my pictures look like they belong in a magazine! I HIGHLY recoomend Adriano, and he is very reasonable, especially for such amazing pictures.

Alfred Angelo - North Attleboro, Ma - I got my dress, as well as the bridesmaids dresses through Alfred Angelo...they were fantastic, and the prices were really good. Daniela worked with me from the first day I went in, through my 2nd fitting. She is such a sweetie! Dorota is their alterations woman, and she is also fantastic...she did a custom bustle (17 pts!) on my dress, to make it unique, and look very natural for my dress.

Other online places I used that I could recommend would be:

zazzle, vista print, yourinvitationplace.com, choconet, and oriental trading company

Re: vendor reviews from my 9/11/11 wedding! (UPDATE: Negative review added below -Simply Elegant Linens)

  • edited December 2011
It's 2 months after my wedding, and I needed to comment on one of my above reviews. I would like to recant my statement about Simply Elegant Linens, as when I wrote this, it was just after the wedding, and I assumed they would hold true to their word on getting us our refund check, as we overpaid. They did NOT, and I am still having to chase after them for it. I was so tired from all the wedding planning, I was just glad that part was over, and was happy to forget about all of the stress they caused me during the planning process, because in my mind, they showed up, and there were linens on the tables.

I really feel though, I should've been honest in my review of them, and not ignored all of the crap that I dealt with from them, just because I was glad I didn't have to deal with them anymore.

so here's a real review, now that the dust from the wedding has settled:

In the very beginning, Gina was super easy to reach, and answered emails very quickly. I was able to make an appointment with her, in which we agreed on the linens and chair covers I wanted, and I gave her a deposit. I was told I would get the contract emailed to me, to print and sign and mail back to her, within a few days. A week later, I emailed her, reminding her that I still needed the contract. No response. this went on for over a month. I had originally met with her in early Febraury, and did not actually get a copy of the contract until the end of February, and it had a bunch incorrect information. I didn't receive the corrected copy to sign and return until March 6th!  Just being glad I finally got it, I signed it, and sent it back. At that point, there were red flags, but I didn't do anything about it. I took the next several months to focus on all the other things I had to do, knowing I wouldn't need to discuss any more details with Gina until closer to the wedding, when I actually had a final headcount, and was making the seating chart.

Once again, she was pretty difficult to get ahold of. a month before my wedding on 8/8/11, I wanted to get the contract updated to include the now-accurate numbers of everything, and I sent several emails, and made several phone calls. When I finally reached her, she quickly told me that yes they have my info, byut they have another wedding ahead of mine, and they are focusing on that one. OK. Fine. I felt better at least knowing that she did receive my updated numbers.

As it drew closer to the wedding, I still hadn't had an udated balance, since we had made changes. It was stated that the contract has to be paid in full by 9/8/11, since the wedding was 9/11/11. After caling and calling again, she finally sent me the updated balce due on 9/6/11, in which I had to mail the check THAT day in order for her to receive it by 9/8/11.

On Friday, 9/9/11, TWO DAYS before my wedding, she calls me and tells me that the overlays I am supposed to have, were damaged at a wedding they used them for 2 weeks prior, and she just got them back from the cleaners, and they have wax all over them, and she can't use them. She gives me a few options, but what choice do I have really? the wedding is in two days. I opted to go with the table runners, since they are at least still going to match the sashes on the chair covers. She tells me verbally, over the phone, that those cost less, so she will cut me a check for $195.00 and leave it with my DOC at my venue the morning of the wedding.

after the wedding, that night, while my new husband and I were gathering our things to head home, I spoke with Kaitlyn our Day of coordinator, and she said that Gina never left a check. She also informed me that they were short 3 chair covers.  I called Gina on Monday, the day after our wedding, and asked her about the check (I never mentioned the chair covers to her, because honestly, the check was the bigger issue. The wedding was over, but I wanted my $195!!), and she told me that she never saw anyone to leave the check, so she was putting in the mail that day for me. I always want to believe people, and give them the benefit of the doubt, so I was fine with that.

We left for our honeymoon, and was gone for almost 2 weeks. When we returned, I did the above review of all of my vendors. I then started getting back into "real Life" and it occured to me that I never saw her check in the pile of mail on our kitchen table. I emailed Gina again, and she insisted she mailed it. I explained to her that we did not receve it. She responds back that "she will look into it".

It is now 11/10/11 - and we have still not received the check, and my last email asking for an update on the status of the check, went unanswered.

I strongly suggest, that if you want a smooth transaction with a vendor for linens, with easy communication, and transparency,  Do NOT use Simply Elegant.
