Catering Ideas

Hey all!

I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a GREAT catering company.  I am always a little leary of website reviews and know you all give better advice anyways :)

We haven't booked anything yet but the food is definately the most important part of our wedding.  We are both very "foodie" people and are having a small ceremony/reception with guest count of 50 people max.  We have been to 3 weddings in the past year and the food was not to our liking based on portion size, wait time (there was an HOUR between the first table served and the last table served), & the food being cold.  I know its a little unorthadox to focus on catering first before venue but we want to fall in love with a caterer then find a venue that would accomodate them.  With our small party we are even open to renting out a resteraunt (if the decor is to our liking).

We are hoping to have a 4 to 5 course plated meal with our guests.  Figuring american fare with steak being a must as a choice.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Re: Catering Ideas

  • We used Deco Catering for our wedding and I absolutely loved them. They have a lot of options and their food is delicious. I recieved a lot of comments from guests that it was some of the best food they'd had in a long time, not just at a wedding!

  • Check out Create Catering. I know they do some higher profile events in the Twin Cities (or at least for some higher profile people) and can put a fancy twist on classic food.

I used Create for a work event a few years ago and the food was UNBELIEVABLY good (not cheap, though). They have a dining studio in NE Minneapolis where they will host private events - maybe that would be a good option for your reception?

I personally love the idea of doing a restaurant reception, especially if you're foodies. Some ideas for private spaces - Cafe Lurcat, Heartland or Meritage.

  • Deco Catering is AMAZING.  We loved the tasting and are using them for our wedding.  I also attended an event at my law school that they were catering and the food was delicious and was served hot to a huge group of people.
