Songs for the Ceremony

Hello,

I am new here.  I mostly hang out on the DIY and budget boards, but I was wondering what everyone is doing for their ceremony songs.  I'm trying to get some ideas. Thanks

we used ave maria for our entrance.
other than that, i have no idea what was played.  i let the organist pick everything.

Our church has a CD with clips of the music from which we can choose (arranged in the order of where each song would "fit").  I've found it incredibly helpful to listen to it and imagine each section of the mass.  You might ask your church's music director if something like that is available.

What kind of music is usually sung at your Church?  Are there any songs that speak to you personally?  You don't have to do standard wedding stuff.  And suggestions will vary greatly on here because we've got a very wide range of types of musical practice.  Here's my lineup:

Preludes:  "Variations on a Theme from Pachelbel's Canon in D Major" by David Lanz, "How Beautiful" by Twila Paris

Processionals:  "Jesus Alive" by our piano accompanist, "Jesu" by Jim Brickman, "Hymn to Joy" by Jeanne Cotter

    Opening Hymn:  "We Are Called"
    Gloria:  Mass of Light
Responsorial Psalm:  "Alleluia, Alleluia"  I forget the psalm number, but it's the standard Easter verses
Gospel Acclamation:  Mass for the Life of the World
Preparation of the Gifts:  "For the Life of the World"
Eucharistic Prayer:  Mass for the Life of the World
Communion Hymn:  "Now in this Banquet"
Closing Hymn:  "We Are Many Parts"  (done in an upbeat style)

We had a traditional Irish group play everything but the "mass parts."  Fiddler, guitarist, singer...   I think the communion song may have just been piano and a vocalist (my very talented niece).   I love the communion song and it is very wedding appropriate!  And I really really strongly dislike organ music.   I mentioned this the 5 times I talked to the organist/pianist (not the one for the church, he moved the week before my wedding for another job out of state and found a replacement a month or so before the wedding) and in every e-mail.  Yet he still played the organ for something (we just laughed, it wasn't much).

    Prelude
    Haste to the Wedding
    Carolins Ramble to Cashel
    Madame Cole
    Blarney Pilgrim
Seating of Mothers Sliabh Na Mban
    Bridal Party:Si Beg Si Mho
    r
Bridal Procession Give Me Your Hand
Gathering song God in the Planning and Purpose of Life (Tune: Slane)
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 128: Blest are those who love you, happy those who follow you, blest are those who seek you, O God.
    Gospel Acclamation "Alleluia"- Celtic Alleluia
Preparation and Presentation of the Gifts INSTRUMENTALS
    anctus (Holy, Holy)
    Celtic Sanctus

Great Amen- Haas, Mass of Light
Communion   “When This Day is Done”  Liam Lawton
Devotion to Mary “Ave Maria” Bach
Recessional  “Onward to the Kingdom” David Haas,( Tune of Maire’s Wedding)  (I love the line "arm in arm in love we go, onward to the kingdom!)

We had Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring for the entrance, Hassler's Mass for Eight Voices for the Mass parts, and Arrival of the Queen of Sheba (?) for the recessional.

So, there's another perspective from someone whose DH can't stand modern Church music, lol.

Aimers - the teenage boys in my parish call "Alleluia, Give the Glory" the "stripper alleluia".  Silly boys.  But it is the right tempo and time for swinging a feather boa, lol.

Lol, no wonder you sang it a lot.  I'd need that too at a 10pm mass!

For the Groom's entrance we had "Canon in D"

Bride's entrance "Ave Maria" the Schubert version

For the gathering song we had "O Come All Ye Faithful" (12.11.10 wedding during Advent)

We had the Mass of Creation for the Eucharist, Celtic Alleluia for the Gospel

For Communion we had "Oh Happy Day"

And for the recessional we had "Ode to Joy"

We did not do the devotion to Mary, but we would've had "Hail Holy Queen" (Salve Regina)

    Good luck!
