DJ lighting for reception

I was wondering if anyone is NOT using intelligent lighting with their DJ?  These are the lights that kinda make the dance floor like a club.

  • I didn't use any kind of special lighting at my wedding.  It wasn't in our budget.
  • If you are talking about those bright blinking lights then I will definitely not be having those. I don't need a migraine the day of the wedding lol...I might have uplighting if it's in our budget, but that's about it.

  • Our DJ had his own lights and strobes, etc. We didn't have to pay any extra. I always thought most DJ's had their own equipment.
  • Intelligent lighting can be so much more than just a club feel on the dance floor.  Your DJ can provide lighting that flashes bright, primary colors and, if you're lucky, it will be timed to the music.  On the other hand, with true intelligent lighting, you can have a textured look on the dance floor during dinner that matches the decor of the rest of the room, a calm, romantic look for your first dance, an upbeat club feel for when the party heats up, a custom monogram that, if you want, can move around the room, and the resources to create any kind of mood or environment.  You might find a dj with extensive experience in creating the right mood for the right moment in your reception.  If you do find the right dj, do you want them focusing on lighting or playing music?  DJ's "intelligent" lighting doesn't cost much, but it won't be unique to you, the wedding couple.  Even DJ's uplighting will often be somewhat cookie-cutter.  If you don't have much budget for lighting, a DJ's lighting can certainly add a little bit of excitement to your party.  If you have the budget, though, bring in a lighting professional that will create lighting unique to you.
