Gifts for parents, need some advice

Hi,
I have not posted on her much but lurk a lot.  I need some advice on the parents of the groom present.  I have already decided what we will be giving my parents.

My parents will be recieving a weekend at a Bed and Breakfast, bc they totally deserve a weekend away(they never take time for themselves).  This was an easy decision.

As for my FI's parents they were going to recieve the same thing bc they really don' take time for themselves either.  Well here is the problem, my FI and I found out three weeks ago that they are now divorced. So the B&B idea is not going to work out so well for them.

I am the type of person that feels you should spend the same amount on one person as the next.  We are roughly spending $275 for the B&B weekend.  So I am looking for some ideas for his parents that will be something special but seperate. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Sorry it was kind of long!

Re: Gifts for parents, need some advice

  • So you basically want a father-of-the-groom and a mother-of-the-groom gift, each for about $150? But you probably don't want each obviously half the cost of the single parents-of-the-bride gift, 'cause then it looks or feels like you're punishing them for getting divorced. Do I have it all correctly?

Gifts for parents are the same as gifts for wedding party members. Shop like it's their birthday (or Christmas, 'cause you might not buy parents birthday gifts). I don't know these people, but off the top of my head, a spa gift certificate and event tickets (sports, concert) come to mind, or maybe like a gift certificate for a round of golf at a private course - things they can do separately.
  • Yes you hit it square on the head! My FI is giving them enough of a guilt trip that they got divorced 4 months before our wedding but I feel that if they are both happier then thats the way it needs to be.  I just want something nice for both of them and I tend to overthink things.
  • I like the idea of experience gifts, since you're giving your parents the B&B weekend--restaurant GC, spa/massage, sporting events, concert tickets, GC to the local art movie theater, etc.
  • I like the spa/ massage idea :)
