Kleinfelds

Has anyone gone dress shopping at Kleinfeld's? Experiences? Good or bad? They preach on the show that no bridal salon treats you like a princess more the Kleinfelds or whatever, so I'm planning on going in the spring (don't want to go too soon!, wedding is 2 years away).

I had a decent experience.  I didn't feel like a princess and didn't feel like I got the best selection to choose from, but it was fun and they were very nice (remember they cater to 1000s of brides so you don't get the same 1:1 attention you might get in a boutique).  Their formula is basically to take your favorite gown and bring you 5 or 6 similar gowns until you find the one that looks best, but I was looking for more of a variety of styles.  Camille showed me 5 gowns with flowered bottoms that all looked exactly the same.

Definitely go dress shopping beforehand and get an idea of what you like.  This is not the place for first-timers.  If you can go during the week and be very specific, you'll have a good experience.  And don't bring an entourage if you can avoid it - the side dressing rooms are quite small.  But it's worth the trip!  Good luck and have fun!

  • I haven't gone but have heard that the appointments are pretty short and you don't get a lot of loitering time.  Also most of the dresses are more expensive, apparently there is little selection <$2000.

I went and did not expect to get my dress the day I went. The service I received was better than shops in NJ. I was also there for almost four hours and was not rushed. I got a Pnina Tornai and she measured me herself. I had a great experience!

This explains the long appointment! :)

Haha yes the long appointment... and let me guess you probably made the Kleinfeld what 10K++? Lucky you ;) for being able to spend that much, Anyone think I'll get that service with a  3K budget? Hehehe Sounds like you had an incredible experience PP!!

  • Actually no I wasn't. I gave them a budget and they were very respectful not to pull any dresses over that budget. I guess it depends who you get and if they have someone after you. I also came very prepared knowing what worked and what didn't by trying on in local salons. I showed them pictures of what I liked and of me in different dresses too.
  • I went there with a $2K budget - pretty sure they would laugh me out of the store - and, actually, they were VERY nice and only brought me dresses in my budget and in the styles I was looking for. It was actually a lovely experience. (And I was totally surprised about it; I had expected them to be pretty snooty at best).

That being said, I ended up putting a deposit down on a dress that I later ended up regretting (my fault, not theirs). I got a store credit back for the deposit that I'm now selling for a discount. So if you do end up finding your dress there, message me. You'd get $200 off your dress! (I can transfer the credit to your name).
  • After reading dozens of negative rviews on Kleinfelds I was a little nervous. I went with one of my best friends/bridesmaids and all I can see is I loved every second. I did NOT have a crazy budget ($3k) and I am seriously considering the Jim Hjelm dress I tried on there. Alison was my consultant and she was fantastic. I tried on a lot of dresses but I clearly had my eye on the JH which was the second one I tried on. She never pressured me, even at the end, as I told her my mom was coming into town later next month to purchase with me.

Only negative is that Klenfelds alterations are a bit steep ($750 flat fee compared to a salon I loved in NJ that was $375).

Side note: I went on a Thursday afternoon and NOT a weekend -- Alison told me weekends are the absolute worst there. Your best bet is a weekday morning or early afternoon.
