Hello!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone- My finance proposed on September 24th and I'm still floating on cloud 9!

We are getting married in 2013 (both work full time, going to grad school and hope to find a house next year) We are getting a jump start on the venue to at least secure the date and I've been reading a few of the boards- you ladies are so informative, THANK YOU!

Has anyone visited the St Anthony Main Event Center? Thoughts? We are going to see it on Saturday and online/speaking with Sue it looks really nice but I feel like there is a catch....

Hope you all have a wonderful night!

Congratulations on your engagement! That cloud 9 feeling doesn't go away, it's great!

My Fiance and I looked at St. Anthony Event Center and met with Sue. She is a good saleswoman, she knows what she's doing! At the end of our meeting with her, we felt that the event center wasn't really us, and on the pricey side. On top of the rental fee, food and beverage minimum ($7,000 grand alone!) there were extra charges. Sue will give you an estimated quote, and ours came out to nearly $15,000 for 150 - 175 guests! It was definitely out of budget for us.

The event center would have been perfect for us because we are getting married at Our Lady of Lourdes which would have been walking distance for guests. I would recommend it if you have the budget, it's a great location!

    Good luck!

Welcome and congrats! My sister had her reception there a few years ago, and we had our reception, and initially worked with Sue, at Blaisdell Manor which is another one of their venues. As pp said, it can get to be a bit pricey, but it is a beautiful venue. I loved the location of St. Anthony Main and being right by the river. A possible downside is that the dinner is upstairs, and then the dance is downstairs (at least that's how it was for my sisters wedding), so if you're one that likes for guests to be able to have a table to sit at throughout the night and watch people dance, that didn't happen. If I remember though, I do believe they had some seating on the lower level where the dance was. Regarding Sue, yes, she is very much a sales person. We liked her, but felt we were misinformed about some things (told a certain meal would work in our budget, when it didn't, and other small things) and didn't really find that out until we were working with our event coordinator (Marguerite, who was wonderful!). Their food is amazing, which is why we also used them for our wedding, and why they are a bit more on the spendy side. Overall though I think you'd be very pleased if you went with them!

I also have no advice on that venue. But hopefully it works out well for you.

    Welcome!
We had our reception at Pracna on Main, just a little way down the street and LOVED it.  I was a little less than other ladies are saying that the Event Center is and they were super helpful.  Vics also does receptions, if you like the area but aren't sold on the Event Center.
    Good luck!

Thank you so much for all the welcoming posts! I think I'm really going to enjoy this :)

Also thank you for those that gave me a quick heads up about Sue, I got the impression from the "extras" page that there might be a few things not included in the flat fee....we will see after saturday. @kellyfranks thank you for the idea about the Pracna on Main, we will have to check it out!

Have a wonderful night ladies, time for me to start looking through the boards (what a great way to unwind after class :))
