Need Dress Help!

So, I went to David's Bridal for the first time last night. I found a dress that I LOVE. My wedding is June 2012. I am not in an urgent rush to buy the dress, however, I am afraid that if I wait they will discountiue it or not have my size anymore.

Here is where the problem comes in:  Like all brides, I plan on losing weight. I know, everyone says that, but I used to be a huge exercise person and I no longer do, etc.. I am thinking I can lose 20 pounds by then. However, I am nervous that the dress won't fit and if I get it altered, it won't fit like it did. Does anyone have any advice for me, horror stories about taking a dress in or any alteration stories?

How much do average alterations cost?

Thanks everyone for any help you can give! Cool

What dress is it? Go online to DB's website and see if there are reviews for the dress. If there are a lot of reviews, you can bet it's been around for a while and isn't going anywhere.

Let DB know that you want to order the dress, but in a couple months. Maybe they can give you a heads up if/when it may be discontinued. DB usually doesn't take that long to ship dresses in.

Then, start your exercise! Plan to order the dress in say, November, and see if you can drop a few pounds/inches by then. Then order the dress IN YOUR SIZE AT THE TIME. Alterations can easily take dresses in by about 2 sizes, but letting them out is another ball game.

Are you really in MKE? I got this recommendation from the MKE Knot page:
I HIGHLY recommend Carol of Fig Leaf

    262-878-3573

She was AMAZING - totally renovated my entire dress and did it all for $150!! (I mean, she put in the bustle and did all the normal alterations AND took apart the entire back if the dress/zipper/everything and put in a corset back)

I sent my entire bridal party and MIL there and they all raved about her.

She is amazing!  And she will store your dress until the wedding.

She runs the business out of her home and it's out on Hwy 20 towards Waterford/Dover. (if you hit the Dover Inn coming from the East, you've gone too far)

I highly recommend her.  I just felt so comfortable with her and she had some really good suggestions.

I have an appointment with her at the end of the month!
I also recommend Becky at Becky's Custom Sewing in Bay View. Her number is (414) 483-7870

Sorry this is long, but hope it helps!
