Vegas wedding Save-The-Dates

Hi ladies! My FI and I have chosen to forego the big, expensive, fancy wedding we had originally thought about and are getting married 2/29/12 in Las Vegas! Here is my question:

We are not inviting any family or friends out there. Just the two of us. The venue we have chosen offers the internet broadcasting so that our friends and family can view the ceremony at the same time it is happening. This is sort-of a last minute decision (we just agreed on this right after Christmas and told the family this weekend) so, I was thinking about sending out "Save-The-Date" type cards that have the wedding date, time, and the URL of the internet broadcast on them. What do you think? Is it silly? Or do you think an e-mail would be fine? We are planning to have a reception-type party at the end of March (when my FI's parents are able to make it to our city). So, good idea or not? Any suggestions? Thank you all very much!

I love it! It might surprise and confuse your "guests" a little, but I'm confident most people will learn to love the novelty of it. Good luck!

Edit: Email probaby would suffice, but a mailed card would be sweet and thoughtful.
  • I like the idea!  I'd just make sure to be clear that you are not inviting anyone out to Vegas.  But just be aware that some, mostly older generations, may mistake your STD for the web broadcast as an invite to come to the actual wedding and you may find yourself dealing with unexpected guests.  So if you go this route, I'd say send them out only a week or two before the wedding, make it harder for anyone to actually book a trip out!

Btw, we're almost date twins!  I REALLY wanted 2/29 but that date wouldn't work out for us so we got 2/28 instead.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • I wouldnt send out anything, if your eloping...elope. I think most people get that going to vegas means small wedding. Personally tell people about the link if people will want to see it. Otherwise just leave it...if your not inviting them, why should they have to not book anything on your day just so they can see the live ceremony on the internet.

  • Thank you for the advice ladies!!

Most, if not all, of the family now knows our plans and since we aren't inviting anyone out to the Ceremony in Vegas we've decided to also do a small reception at home with our families a month after we get back. I'm thinking of sending out some semi-formal invites for the Reception that also include the ceremony hyperlink info.

    Thank you all! :)
  • Thats funny! We didn't even realize that it is the day of leap year! Haha! We are going out to Vegas for my FI's hockey tourney with his buddies. We are flying out 2/28 and they start playing hockey 3/1 so 2/29 was the only date we wouldn't be busy! :) Congrats!!! Its coming up soooo fast!

  • Wow! Thats crazy! Haha! :) We love Vegas! We went 4 times last year! This will be our first (and only) trip this year since we are planning to try for baby 2 after the wedding! :)

My mom told FI that he has to get me anniversary gift on the 28th and 1st every year and I only have to get one for him on the 29th. Lol! ;)
