So I am having a modern Romeo and Juliet-inspired wedding. I planned on getting these little crystal bells and while I was waiting for a coupon, they got taken off of the website. I was pretty upset. So now I have another idea, but my fiance thinks it's in poor taste....
I am thinking of giving letter openers as favors. Yes, they look like knives. This obviously goes with the whole Romeo and Juliet thing, but I am afraid that 1. it is too theme-y (which I've been trying to avoid, hence me using the word 'inspired' instead of 'themed'), and 2. giving a weapon seems kind of in bad taste.
So what do you guys think? If you got a letter opener as a favor would you think I was crazy (and inapproprate) or would you say oh cool, a letter opener? (keeping in mind, nothing in the wedding is blatant R+J, just clever nods to the movie and story here and there)

Re: Opinions needed: Is this idea tacky?
1.Shakespeare inspired writing on favor boxes or a tag like the one I found on google.com. I'm sure you can find them.
2.Masquerade masks styled favor boxes and just put candy in them. I found a keychain on google also. Check out this site. that way your gift can also hold a picture of them or their family and still be from you wedding. http://www.stumpsparty.com/catalog.cfm?cat=51845
That way you can make it as inspired as you please. If all else fails just get images on google of your idea and see what images draw you in.
