If you don't mind me asking...

Hi ladies,   I had an unplanned shopping trip on Saturday....I went dress shopping for the first time!  It was such an great experience.  I went to I do I do in Morristown.  The ladies in the shop were wonderful.  I tried on various dresses....problem is I didn't look at some of the prices. Most legit websites don't show the price either.  I don't want to fall in love with a dress and have it be more than I want to spend.  What designers are you wearing (or have worn) and how much did you spend?

Any info is greatly appreciated Smile

Most places that I went to had me fill out a questionaire upon arrival which had me mark the price range I was looking for.  Therefore, they only had me try dresses on that were in my price range.   My dress is an Allure gown which cost
$1,800.  I also tried on many dress by Maggie Sottero and Casablanca, which all fell in the 1,000-2,000 price range.

[QUOTE]I tried on casablanca ( liked a few) Looked at some Maggie Sottero online today. Looked at Allure too.  I'm surprised she didn't ask how much I was looking to spend.  That kind of made me nervous.  The store is new and I think she was just excited to get me in dresses since she knew it was my first time shopping. (and she has 2 boys of her own)

Next time you go to a store shopping for dresses I would just make them aware of your  price range.  I know I would of been pissed if I fell in love with a dress outside of my price range!

I also went to I Do I Do to try on dresses, and they asked me my price range right away, so that is very odd.  However, they emailed me pictures of me in the dresses I liked, which I will assume they will be doing for you as well, so you can always reply to the email and ask how much the dress was. Or call them!

I worked with the owner leia.  She took a bunch of pics.  She said she would send them over some time this afternoon.  Im excited to see them.  I figure worst case i'd just get a rough idea of pricing via email.  Until then i dont want to keep looking at dresses i can't afford.  (its a very slow day here at work so i've been looking at dresses all morning)

I tried on so many beautiful dresses by Essence, Casablanca, Maggie, Sottero & Midgely  They were all less than $1300. I ended up going to a place in PA whose owners also work for Maggie so the dresses are very very discounted. I got a 2010 dress for $850. This was at a trunk show with 10% discount.

I wore a Casablanca and it was $849. We were on a budget so I didn't want to spend more then $1000 on my dress.

I got a Maggie dress too- it was $900 w/o alterations- should be in in Jan '11. I only went to three stores- two had me fill out forms w/ my price range, one didnt. But I also look a bunch of pictures of Maggie dresses I liked that I knew were around my budget and thats mostly what they showed me, so maybe that is why they didnt ask. I also only went to stores I knew carried dresses that were 1k or below because I didnt want to go to one and have barely any options to try on.

My dress is Sophia Tolli and it was $800 before alterations. But I think her dresses tend to run in the $1200-$1500 range. My dress just happens to be from her Fall 2007 line (gasp! so out of date! lol) so I think thats why it was cheaper.

They tend to have a pretty big selection and the BM dresses are reasonable. If you get your dress and BM dresses there, the BM dresses are 10% off, so my BMs are only paying 139 for their dresses.

I wore a Casablanca dress (style 1910, with some custom changes) and it was about $1300 I believe...I think just a little more.

David's bridal on sale for $299 - but price was just about everything to me since FI and I have major $$ issues due to layoffs.

I totally fell in love with dresses in the 1K and above price range that I know I can never buy.  Def know your budget and the price of the dress before you try them on.

For what it's worth - I do love my dress :) It's perfect and just happened to be in my price range.  I was really scared I would have to settle.  Yay for sales and discontinued dress styles still around in my size!

Which designers do you have in mind?  If you specify, people can give you ideas about those designers' price ranges.  What budget do you have in mind?  If you specify, people may be able to point you to designers in that range.

For almost any designer, there is going to be a price range depending on the size of the dress (more material is more expensive than less material), materials used, details (beading, lace), etc.

Also, if you can find pictures or model numbers of dresses and post on the Dress board here, I bet people will know the prices of the dresses you like.  And preownedweddingdresses.com can be helpful too -- there are a ton of dresses there and a lot of listings say what the dress retailed for (although that should be taken with a grain of salt -- some include alterations and tax while others don't, and some are exaggerations (because higher retail price makes higher resale price sound reasonable)).

I found my dress online, and then found a trunk show.   I called the store and asked them to bring in the dress specifically.     They did.

I bought my dress on my first shopping trip, and it was the 3rd dress i tried on.  (9 total)    The shop is Bridal Reflections in NYC, and my dress is a Simone Carvalli.    I got 10% off because of the trunk show, but because i have a HUGE bust, I ended up paying extra for the extended size just to fit my chest.   (its a curse!! LOL)  I also bought a custom swarovski crystal belt, my veil, and alterations included.  Total, it was $3K
