rental sticker shock

I'm completely floored by chair rentals. I called just about every place I could find and I'm horrified to find that renting chairs for 50 people is going to cost me more than my tent rental and tables combined!

For 55 of the white resin wedding chairs and 45 of the plain white folding chairs delivered we're looking at $405! That seems absurd.

I was originally not going to have them delivered since we have several pick up trucks at our disposal, but Affordable Events is only charging me $75 for delivery. But then I realized his rental prices for chairs are a full dollar more a piece than other places which negates the savings. He's still the cheapest place to get them, but (not to bash a vendor) the last couple of times I've talked to him he's grown increasingly rude and has changed both his delivery requirements and prices. I think at this point since I haven't given him a deposit yet I'm going with another rental company that was a little more expensive, but was waaay nicer.

Does that price seem normal?

I've checked One Stop Party Shop
NE Tent and Awning (his chair prices were great and said he actually recommended that we just pick up, but he's out of chairs. Also I felt like he was super rude as well)
Are You Ready to Party
and then some rental shop in Waterville.

The lady I'm getting my tent from only rents the plastic white folding chairs. While I don't mind them for the ceremony I don't want them for the reception. It would be $200 to have those across the board versus the the $435 I'm going to pay if I get the wedding chairs from a different rental company.

This is  10% of our entire budget and I think it's outrageous. I was planning on maybe $250 originally if we didn't do delivery.

The wedding is in Wayne Maine. It's central Maine. Does anyone have any places I'm maybe not thinking of, or know of a rental company that doesn't come up through google?

We are going through Are you ready to party in waterville.  They were the most affordable near our location,  the delivery fee is $100.00, which sucks, but we figure after we make like 3 trips to pick up the chairs and the time, plus they do the set up as well.  The $100.00 isn't really that bad.

So far they have been really great to work with.

I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to say that I feel your pain. Bigtime.
