What are some of the best wedding favors you've ever gotten ?

I'm having some trouble picking a wedding favor. I want to give my guest something that they will actually use or eat that isnt too pricey. Was thinking about cupcakes . I also saw these really cute mesuring spoonswith quotes on them that says things like : " a touch of love", "a pinch of hugs" etc. but I could not engrave them .Any ideas..?

  • Edible is always a good idea. The measuring spoons will eventully tarnish if not plastic.
  • Favors can be tough, with preferences as unique as the number of attending guests. Although I've never attended a wedding where this was done, I've heard of people making donations to a favorite charity with a little note at each guest's place setting. While guests can argue about whether or not they're fans of your candy choice, no one will dare fault you for making a donation to a good cause. Sometimes it can even be in honor of deceased family members who would have otherwise been in attendance - like funding cancer research, etc. It's a great way to remember and honor those you love.

My personal favorite received favor was a shot glass with the couple's names, wedding date and the mascot of the school where the couple met and graduated. I collect shot glasses and attended the same university, so I thought it was a great selection! But it might not be for everyone, especially if you have non-drinking guests.

For our wedding, my fiance suggested that we put together a music file - either on CD or jump drive - of our favorite love songs. It works for us, because we are big music fans, and my fiance is known among our friends for his Top 100 song lists. It was also a lot of fun to collaborate on song preferences.

Do you and your fiance share a particular interest? If the favor gives insight into your personalities (preferences, roots, etc.) or helps to carry out your wedding themes, then you can't go wrong. I hope this helps!

I see by your post count that you haven't been on TK long. Donations to charity as favors are very unpopular around here - just so you know.

I also do not recommend getting anything with your name, date, etc printed on it. The only ppl who may keep this are close family members (I have one aunt that kept all of them), but most ppl will leave the favor on the table. Think about it - would you want something with someone else's name on it in your house?

Edible favors are always a safe route (cookies, dessert/candy bars, etc). A photobooth is an increasingly popular thing to do also.

  • Photo booth favors are really fun. I've seen both the expensive ones and the DIY kind. They give guests something fun to do and a cute photo to take home. We made a wood wall with cutouts that we framed. We had mustaches on sticks and other props and put the pics online for guests to print.

I did handmade tile coasters for ours. I made a variety of styles, and they doubled up as escort cards (I matched each set to the person's taste/home decor). People really liked them and some even wanted to know how to make them so that they could make more to give as gifts.

The worst favors are things with names and dates on them. I am never going to use anything with someone else's wedding date on it.

  • Ugh - yes - hate names and dates. My bf doesn't get it, that most people don't want something sitting around their house with someone else's marriage date on it. I feel that way even with my sis if she were to get married - and she's my best friend.

I am a swing dancer and one of my friend's also a swing dancer got married and did a CD of their fave songs - of course, now CDs are going out as MP3s become more popular.

I posted in another post about a Lituanian friend who made or had someone make a liqueur that she put into little bottles. It was interesting to learn about and tasted good, too. Of course, taste is subjective - some people hate chocolate, some hate nuts, you're never going to please everyone.
Daring to dream a bigger dream
  • I've made a bunch of champagne cork bride magnets for my bridal shower favors and these can easily serve as wedding favors....very unique. Plus, my friends are HUGE wine/champagne lovers so this is perfect for me. I'm just starting out with my side business and have a bunch of other cork creations that might also be a good fit based on different hobbies, personalities and themes. If you're interested check out http://www.poppin-corks.com. The brides are $6 each but I give discounts for orders over 10 and I'm willing to work with you on price since I would really like the exposure.

You know - some chocolate  or a really good cookie and I'm a thrilled guest.  I do not EVER want anything with names or dates on it.  I don't want anything I can't eat because I don't want any trinkets that will collect dust or be a duplicate of something most people already have - like measuring spoons.  sorry.

Simple, edible, and I'm good.  I'm a very happy guest if you throw me some Hershey Kisses.

ETA - I am also a happy guest if you forego favors.  They aren't required.
